Artists exhibit at Mahwah Museum An exhibit from the art class of the Mahwah Senior Activity Center, which is under the direction of Susanne Small and Pamela Leggate, will be featured at the Mahwah Museum. The 23 piece exhibit includes works in pen and ink, watercolor, colored pencil, and acrylics. Hours will be weekends from 2 to 4 p.m. through May 31. This exhibit is made possible by the Mahwah Museum Society, Inc. and Mahwah Senior Activity Center. The museum is located at 201 Franklin Turnpike. Mahwah. Boosters to host Pancake Breakfast The Mahwah High School Sports Boosters will hold a Pancake Breakfast fundraiser on Sunday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Chili’s on Route 17 North in Ramsey. Cost is $5 per person at the door and includes pancakes, bacon, juice, coffee, and tea. Mahwah High School Sports Boosters will receive 100 percent of the proceeds. Library announces closing dates The Mahwah Public Library will be closed on Tuesday, April 28 for the New Jersey Library Association Conference.Library hours are Monday through Thursday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The Mahwah Public Library is located at 100 Ridge Road. A Mahwah resident, Motabar came to the
United States after a 50-year career in chemical industrial raw materials and agricultural chemicals. He volunteers at the Mahwah Senior Center and is a member of its art classes. His exhibit includes pieces in pencil, watercolor, acrylic, pen and ink, and charcoal. In addition to his art work, Motabar is a poet and calligrapher in Farsi. Also on display is “Skylands: The New Jersey State Botanical Gardens” through May. The exhibit features photographs, historic postcards, pressed and dried flowers, books, Skylands’ history and current activities, and garden fixtures and memorabilia showcasing the beauty of the botanical gardens. The Mahwah Library is located at 100 Ridge Road. Job search materials available The Mahwah Public Library has put some of its job search materials front and center. Research materials include books on job searches, writing resumes and cover letters, interviewing, networking, franchising, starting your own business, finding a civil service job, and more. There are DVDs on grooming and dressing for success, getting a first job, planning a career, money management, the right part-time job, and a virtual job interview. There is a new brochure called “Jobseekers” that contains employment and career information on the web. Check out the “Job Center” bulletin board postings. The library has two public computers for resume writing. There are eight public Internet computers that can be used for applying for unemployment benefits and checking out job websites. Chamber scholarship application available Applications are now available for the annual Mahwah Regional Chamber of Commerce scholarship to Ramapo College of New Jersey. The Chamber offers this $1,500 scholarship to students currently attending, or planning to enter, Ramapo College. The scholarship is open to Cham-
ber members and their children, employees of Chamber members and their children, and Chamber employees and their children. Elks seek summer campers Mahwah Elks Lodge No. 1941 is seeking children ages seven through 17 with physical or mental disabilities to apply for sponsorships to attend Elks Camp Moore in the summer of 2009. Applicants should reside in the Mahwah/ Ramsey area or in the Town of Ramapo in New York. Camp Moore is a sleep away summer camp located in Pompton Lakes and offers one-week stays, including entertainment, activities, and basic medical care. The child’s stay is free of charge to the family. Space is limited and requests for applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Preschool openings available Openings are available in a free public preschool program for Mahwah residents who meet Title I income eligibility requirements. Children must have turned three years old on or before Oct. 1, 2008 and must be fully toilet trained. Experienced, certified teachers plan nurturing early childhood experiences focusing on kindergarten readiness (pre-reading skills, math, and science concepts), social interaction, movement activities, and play skills. Seasonal field trips are scheduled and students participate in schoolwide events and assemblies. The program is based at Lenape Meadows School with classes held five half-days a week, Monday through Friday (following the regular school calendar). The program has both morning from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and afternoon from 12:50 to 3:20 p.m. sessions, with placement determined by availability. Transportation is provided door-to-door.
