The New Jersey Devils hosted the annual high school hockey luncheon at Prudential Center, bringing together the six teams that competed in the New Jersey Devils/NJSIAA High School Ice Hockey Championships presented by Chase. Two days later, Ramsey went on to win the Public “B” State Championship in a thrilling 2-0 victory over the Kinnelon High School Colts on March 21. The victory is the first time a public high school from Bergen County has won a State Championship in ice hockey. back on no matter how old you get.” In attendance representing Ramsey High School was Ramsey Mayor Christopher Botta as well as Ramsey’s varsity ice hockey team, coaches and members of the school administration. The event was emceed by Devils Alumnus Bruce Driver. New Jersey high school ice hockey has nearly doubled in size from 80 programs to 158 since the Devils began hosting the NJSIAA championships in 1997. It’s a sure sign that the Devils’ involvement has succeeded in growing the game locally. “One just has to look around the room at all the jerseys that are here to see how committed the Devils are to interscholastic sports, especially ice hockey,” NJSIAA Executive Director Steven Timko said.
