Calcagno Memorial Golf Tournament, its second annual golf affair that will be held on Monday, April 27, at the High Mountain Golf Club in Franklin Lakes. Calcagno, who passed away in 2008, was an ardent dog lover who believed that the best pets came from RBARI. His wife Anita is serving on the Golf Committee. Animal refuge’s golf event honors Joe Calcagno “We are honored to name our event in Joe’s memory,” said RBARI Executive Director Christine Taylor of Mahwah. “No one embodied the spirit of our organization more than Joe. We hope to gain support through his memory in order to help our animals through these difficult times.” Tickets for the day-long event are priced at $180 apiece and $695 for a foursome. That includes a full day of golf, breakfast, Anne Lawler, a Mahwah resident and social worker for the Living Donor Kidney and Liver Transplant Teams at The New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center in New York City, is among the first clinicians to become a Certified Clinical Transplant Social Worker. This new credential, offered by the Society for Transplant Social Workers, recognizes members who possess clinical expertise based on knowledge, skills, and experience particular to transplantation. “Most patients and families are frightened and bewildered when they start the transplant evaluation,” STSW President Mary Freeman said. “Knowing that they are working with a Certified Clinical Transplant Social Worker can reassure them of expert guidance and care throughout the process.” “We applaud Anne Lawler for the good work she does,” said Freeman. “By earning her CCTSW she has distinguished herself in the transplant social work field and is promoting professionalism within this community.” Lawler earns transplant social worker credential Lawler has provided service for the living donor patients at NYPH/CUMC since 2004. From 2002 until 2004 she was the social worker for the Heart Failure/ Heart Transplant Teams. She has covered for the Lung Transplant team throughout that time. She received The Social Worker of the Year Award in 2006 and The Lee Suszychi Memorial Award in 2005. She is presently the secretary for the executive board of the Society for Transplant Social Workers. She is a presenter on the topic of transplant social work both nationally and internationally. Since its founding in 1986, The Society for Transplant Social Workers has been committed to promoting professional excellence and ethical clinical social work practice in transplantation. The society has continuously provided opportunities for professional growth, communication, and mutual support among transplant social workers. It has advanced social work practice through education, research, and publication on psychosocial issues in transplantation.
