Ramsey April 1, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES IV • Page 11 On Wednesday, March 4, at 6:42 p.m., Patrolman Marc Shingelo was dispatched to Woodland Avenue for a vehicle that was stuck in the snow. A witness reported the occupants were switching seats. Upon arrival, the officer determined who was driving the vehicle and detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath. The driver, a Mahwah resident, refused to participate in field sobriety testing and was arrested for driving while intoxicated. At 12:23 a.m. on March 5, Patrolman Adam Szelag observed a vehicle traveling on Main Street cross over the double yellow lines. A motor vehicle stop was conducted and an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on the driver. At the conclusion of field sobriety testing, the 53-year-old Rochelle Park man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. On Saturday, March 7 at 1:05 a.m. Patrolwoman Morris was dispatched to a motor Borough Police Report vehicle crash on Cherry Lane involving a car that had hit a tree. The driver admitted to ingesting prescription medication. The driver, a 19-year-old Franklin Lakes woman, required medical attention and was transported to the hospital by the Ramsey Ambulance Corps. A summons for driving while intoxicated was issued to the driver. On March 12 at 10:38 p.m., Patrolman Parise conducted a motor vehicle stop based on an observed violation. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officer detected the odor of marijuana. After the marijuana was located, an 18-year-old Ramsey man was arrested. At 11:15 p.m. on March 17, Detective Brian Huth observed erratic driving and conducted a motor vehicle stop on Spear Road. While speaking to the driver, an odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected. After field sobriety testing, the 23-year-old Goshen, New York man was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Birthday celebration Tom Dater, grandson of one of Ramsey’s founding fathers, John Dater III, recently celebrated his 80th birthday. Several Dater School students visited Dater at his office in the historical Dater Building, which housed Ramsey’s first newspaper. The students presented him with a giant birthday card signed by all of the current Dater School students. Dater is Ramsey’s official historian.
