Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • September 30, 2009 Saddle River Valley Auditions for ‘Oliver!’ to be held this weekend Saddle River Youth Theatre will hold auditions for “OLIVER!” – a musical based on one of Charles Dickens’ best-known works. The story, which features a child protagonist, has been presented on stage, film and television many times. The “Oliver!” program will be SRYT’s annual Park Players’ Mentoring Program, in which SRYT students have the opportunity to learn from and perform with adult professional actors. It is with this Mentoring Program that SRYT earned Bergen County Department of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs’ highest possible grant award for this year. Auditions are scheduled for Oct. 3 from noon to 4 p.m. by appointment for children ages 6 through 18. Auditions, rehearsals, and performances all take place at Highlands Regional Playhouse, at Archer Hall, located on the grounds of Archer United Methodist Church, 37 East Allendale Avenue in Allendale. Auditions consist of a short singing portion and a brief reading from the script. Details about the auditions, tuition and scheduling can be found on SRYT’s website, www. sryt.org, by request by e-mail to srytheatre@aol.com, or by leaving a message at the SRYT Office at (201) 825-8805. Saddle River Youth Theatre, founded in 1996, has been an integral part of Youth Theatre education and production in Bergen County, N.J., for 13 years. As a non-profit organization, Saddle River Youth Theatre recently received a 2009-10 Excellence Award from The Bergen County Department Of Parks, Division of Cultural and Historic Affairs. The team of dedicated theater professionals has sought to enrich the cultural and artistic enjoyment of New Jersey theater audiences by bringing the Broadway experience to local communities. SRYT has over 140 shows to its credit, and has held countless specialized workshops on auditioning techniques, acting for film and Shakespeare for teens. The organization’s philosophy is to reinforce self-confidence and encourage teamwork among cast members. By taking part in theater productions, students have an opportunity to participate in full-scale shows in the recently renovated, 120-seat, air-conditioned playhouse. Every child gets a part and no part is too small. Saddle River Youth Theatre offers year-round programming, including upcoming performances of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” and “Little Women,” December auditions for “Les Miserables,” and workshops for students in grades one through four.
