Troop sets Spaghetti Dinner Boy Scout Troop 133 of Upper Saddle River will hold its Election Day Spaghetti Dinner on Tuesday, Nov. 3. The meal will include salad, Italian bread, spaghetti, dessert, and a beverage. Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 8 p.m. at the Old Stone Church Educational Building on East Saddle River Road in Upper Saddle River. Takeout orders will be available. Tickets are sold at the door for $10 or may be purchased ahead of time from any Boy Scout, at the Upper Saddle River Library, or by calling Jill Donato at (201) 785-0648. Proceeds from the dinner will subsidize programs and outings for the troop, ceremonies, and awards. Book Clubs to meet Novels at Night will meet on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Evening is the Whole Day” by Preeta Samarasan. Coffee Talk will meet on Oct. 8 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss “Infidel” by Ayaab Hirsi Ali. Both book clubs meet at the Upper Saddle River Library. Sign up at the circulation desk and pick up a copy of the book. Singles group plans events Singles at Church of the Presentation have planned events for the fall. On Sunday, Oct. 27 the group will meet at the Oktoberfest at Bear Mountain State Park. This event will include food, beverages, and entertainment. 786-2731. There will be a Wine and Cheese Party at the Church of the Presentation on Friday, Oct. 2 from 8 to 11 p.m. There is a $10 cash admission. Lord & Taylor Benefit Bash set The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will participate in the Fifth Annual Lord & Taylor Benefit Bash on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Tickets are $5 each, Participants will receive a 15 percent coupon that can be used on almost anything in the store, including cosmetics, and a 20 percent coupon to be used on one item. Tickets are on sale at the library through Oct. 5. Call the library at (201) 3272583 for more information. Library to offer classes The Upper Saddle River Library offers a variety of fitness classes. Zumba classes meet on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m.; TaiChiChuan on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Pilates on Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; yoga, all levels, on Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m.; and yoga, gentle stretch for seniors, on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Contact the library at (201) 327-2583 for more information. Support group offered Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River is offering a support program for individuals going through separation and divorce. Participants will learn the process of change, communication, and self-awareness while discovering a path for human growth and self esteem. Teams of trained facilitators will assist in coaching the emotions of grief, anger, guilt, loneliness, fear, anxiety, depression,
forgiveness, and self-love. Cub Scout Pack 133 holds registration Upper Saddle River Cub Scout Pack 133 is now accepting registration for 2009-10. All boys entering first through fifth grades are encouraged to join. Chat & Stitch at the library Drop in and relax with a current needlework project and join in conversation with other stitchers on Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 345 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Whether it is a knitting, quilting, needlepoint, embroidery, beading, or crocheting project, everyone is welcome to join this Chat & Stitch program. Refreshments will be served. Library sponsors ESL program As a member of the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, the Upper Saddle River Library offers an ongoing ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. These free sessions provide instruction for area adults. Local residents, who are specially trained tutors, teach foreignborn adults on a one-to-one basis to speak, read, and write English. All groups meet at the library at prearranged times. Applications and information can be obtained at the library circulation desk. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a tutor can contact Rosemarie Manganaro, ESL manager. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the USR Library.
