The Dean’s List recognizes the academic accomplishments of full-time matriculated students who have obtained a minimum grade point average of 3.5 for the semester. Scouts hold Car Wash Upper Saddle River Cub Scout Pack 133 will hold its annual Car Wash on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will take place at Reynolds School. The cost is $5 for cars and $7 for vans and SUVs. A portion of this year’s proceeds will be donated to Last Resort Pet Rescue, a non-profit animal rescue group dedicated to saving the lives of homeless, neglected, abandoned, and abused animals. Meet the Chefs program to begin Upper Saddle River Public Library will host the first in its fall series of “Meet the Chefs” on Monday, Sept. 14 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Chefs from local restaurants will be featured will demonstrate their skill as they prepare one of their signature creations. Chris Calcagano, executive chef at Restaurant L in Allendale, will be the featured chef on Sept. 14. He will focus on bringing fresh, local ingredients from field to table to bring a modern spin on classic comfort food. Registration is required. Garden Gallery Art Show planned Local painters, photographers, sculptors and pottery makers will display their work at a special exhibit hosted by Jacobsen Landscape Gallery located at 11 Barnstable Court in Saddle River on Sept. 12. Artist Joe Terrone of Glen Rock will be one of the exhibitors. A portion of the artists’ proceeds will be dedicated to Children’s Aid and Family Services of Paramus. Visitors will be able to watch artists paint in gardens of Jacobsen’s outdoor rooms and appreciate how closely gardening and painting are linked. Also on display will be work from the Art Center of Northern New Jersey and Plein-Air Painters of the Ridgewood Art Institute. The art show will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Refreshments will be available. There is no charge for the event. Comfortable walking shoes are suggested. Rain date is Saturday, Sept. 26. Novels at Night will meet on Sept. 9 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Terrorist” by John Updike. Coffee Talk will meet on Sept. 10 at 10:30 a.m. to discuss “The Kitchen Boy” by Robert Alexander. Golf & Tennis Classic set The Fourteenth Annual Saddle River Day School Golf and Tennis Classic sponsored by Mercedes Benz USA will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 at The Tuxedo Club, a private country club located in Tuxedo Park, New York. Tennis registration begins at 9 a.m. followed by golf registration at 10:30 a.m. The shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on the 18-hole Robert Trent Jones designed golf course. The cost of $450 per golfer and $185 per tennis player includes lunch, cocktail reception, awards dinner and a fundraiser. Proceeds from this event will benefit the school. Support group offered Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River is offering a support program for individuals going through separation and divorce. Participants will learn the process of change, communication, and self-awareness while discovering a path for human growth and self esteem. Teams of trained facilitators will assist in coaching the emotions of grief, anger, guilt, loneliness, fear, anxiety, depression, forgiveness, and self-love. Vaccines available The Valley Hospital Department of Community Health and the Saddle River Board of Health will be offering flu and pneumonia vaccines to all residents over 65 years of age. Vaccines will be given from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at borough hall, 100 East Allendale Avenue. Registration is required; call (201) 291-6090. Flu and pneumonia vaccines are covered by traditional Medicare Part B. Recipients must present their card at the time of service. HMO participants may choose to go to their primary care provider or choose to pay $27 for a flu vaccination. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for those who have never had a previous pneumonia vaccination. The cost is $35. Flu shots are encouraged for individuals who are age 65 and over, and for those with chronic illnesses. Library to offer classes The Upper Saddle River Library offers a variety of fitness classes. Zumba classes meet on Fridays from 10 to 11 a.m.; TaiChiChuan on Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Pilates on Mondays from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.; yoga, all levels, on Tuesdays at 9:45 a.m.; and yoga, gentle stretch for seniors, on Tuesdays at 11 a.m. Beginners Bridge classes will be held on Mondays, Sept. 14 through Nov. 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost of the class is $100 for eight sessions. Intermediate Bridge classes will be held on Fridays, Sept. 11 through Oct. 30, from 10 a.m. to noon. The cost is $125 for eight sessions.
