Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • October 21, 2009 Waldwick Speeding on Bergen is resident’s concern Another Bergen Avenue resident appealed to the Waldwick Mayor and Council last week to take steps to reduce traffic on his street. “They’re flying; they’re flying,” Marcel Ysern said of the cars that go down his street. “There are 40-50 kids living within two blocks. We’re all worried about it,” he said. Similar concerns were raised by another resident at a council meeting last year. Borough Administrator Gary Kratz said that the last time a speed check was done on the street, the data showed no one driving 40-50 mph, and perhaps one or two people going over 40 mph. He said he would speak to the police chief and recommend that the speed trailer again be set up on the street. Ysern questioned the location at which the trailer would be stationed, noting that he lives close to Franklin Turnpike. “You can pick the location,” Kratz said. The road is used as a cut thru between Franklin Turnpike and Route 17. Councilwoman Anita Bozzo suggested that residents get the license plate numbers of speeders. “We’ll talk to them,” she said. Resident Al Coldon suggested police step up radar checks and speed limit enforcement. “More tickets would slow people down. Put a police car at the bottom, and you’ll make a fortune. You can buy three new police cars,” he quipped. Club hosts Calderone Newly formed Tamaron Italian American Club hosted local singer Greg Calderone, second from left, at recent meeting.
