Ho-Ho-Kus October 14, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 9 Municipal clerk to take on additional responsibilities by Jennifer Crusco Laura Borchers, the Registered Municipal Clerk for the Borough of Ho-Ho-Kus, will soon be taking on the additional responsibilities of security information officer. The governing body appointed Borchers to this newlycreated post at a recent public meeting via Resolution 09112. The resolution on the clerk’s appointment states that the borough makes every effort to comply with all Federal Trade Commission guidelines to protect the personal information of employees and vendors, and this comprehensive information security program requires the borough to name a security information officer. The responsibilities associated with the post include “the design, implementation and monitoring of a security program to protect the security, integrity and confidentiality of personal information collected from and about the borough employees and vendors.” The security information officer will also be responsible for helping the borough to “identify material internal and external risks to the security of personal information, design and implement reasonable safeguards to control the risks identified in the risk assessment, evaluate and adjust the program in light of testing results, and continuously monitor the program.” VFW Post Commander Stanley A. Kober of the Washington Elm Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 192 (Ho-Ho-Kus/ Ridgewood), has announced the kick-off of three annual competitions, including the National VFW and its Ladies Auxiliary Voice of Democracy Scholarship Competition, the Patriot’s Pen Essay Competition, and the National Citi- VFW announces 2009 competitions As security information officer, Borchers will be required to continually update her training in this area. The council resolution notes that she will be given access to relevant training courses and materials. Borchers received her Registered Municipal Clerk certification in 2008, and is currently serving a three-year term. She studied at Montclair State University for her clerk’s credentials, and previously attended school in India. Before she accepted the borough clerk’s position in Ho-Ho-Kus, Borchers was an administrative assistant to Midland Park’s borough administrator and clerk. She is a member of the Midland Park Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Borchers was hired to replace acting clerk Thomas F.
