Those who were previously anointed are welcome to celebrate this sacrament again if their distress has returned or become more serious. A light lunch will follow. Ladies’ Night Out set The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club will host a Wine and Hors d’oeuvres Soiree on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at California Wineworks on Route 17, Paramus. For 52 years, this directory has been a borough tradition, listing local residents, and containing handy resources including important borough numbers, information on borough government and local organizations, a directory of professionals, a dining guide, and a street map. Book Clubs to meet Novels at Night will meet on Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss “Evening is the Whole Day” by Preeta Samarasan. Lord & Taylor Benefit Bash set The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will participate in the Fifth Annual Lord & Taylor Benefit Bash on Tuesday, Oct. 6. Free audiobook software available The Upper Saddle River Library is offering free software for patrons who wish to upgrade to the latest version of OverDrive Media Console 3.2. This program will allow nearly all audiobooks from www.beateaudio.org to be transferred to the iPod®, iPhone™, iPod touch®, and iPod nano®, as well as the Zune® and other MP3 players, from a Windows® computer. Allendale Notebook Halloween events planned The Allendale Holiday Observers will again bring the Halloween celebrations to town. Borough children from pre-K through eighth grade are invited to participate in these two annual autumn events. The Halloween Poster Painting Contest will be held on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the Red Barn at Crestwood Lake from 7:30 a.m. to noon. Rain date will be Saturday, Oct. 24. Students at all skill levels are encouraged to participate. Posters will be prominently displayed later that afternoon on the storefronts of all Allendale businesses. Poster Painting Prizes are given for first, second, and third place in each age group and for Best in Show. All awards will be presented at the Halloween Parade. On Halloween, Saturday, Oct. 31, the Halloween Costume Parade will be held in the Brookside School auditorium starting at 7:30 p.m. All participants parade their costumes for prizes. There will be several categories, including Best Adult/Child Combo Costume. Following the awards ceremony, pizza, apple cider, and candy will be served in the cafeteria. Posters will be available for pick up that evening. Board of education meets The Allendale Board of Education will meet on Tuesday, Oct 13 at 8 p.m. The meet- ing will be held in the Brookside School Library at 100 Brookside Avenue. Garrett to address Republicans The Allendale Republican Club will host U.S. Congressman Scott Garrett on Oct. 12. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Quilt Room on the second floor of the Allendale Municipal Hall, 500 West Crescent Avenue. All are welcome. Friends to host Autumn Book Sale The Friends of the Allendale Library will hold an Autumn Book Sale on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lee Memorial Library, 500 West Crescent Avenue, Allendale. A wide variety of almost new fiction and nonfiction for adults and children, including many current bestsellers, history, science fiction, education, travel, and other genres will be available at bargain prices, starting at 25 cents. Proceeds from this sale go directly to the library for the purchase of new materials. Box Tops fundraiser launched Hillside and Brookside schools have launched the district’s 2009-10 Box Tops for Education fundraising campaign.
