October 7, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 13 Waldwick’s 90th Anniversary 10-7-09 janine WaldwickBanner(10-7-09) .75x10” Nearly 100 people attended a meeting hosted by Habitat for Humanity of Bergen County last week to share with residents of Waldwick and surrounding communities the organization’s plans for renovating the rundown house at 101 Wyckoff Ave. in Waldwick and to seek volunteers to help with the project. Sponsored by Valley National Bank, the evening included pizza and soft drinks along with the unveiling of renderings and floor plans. Attendees also had an opportunity to meet with Bob Price, a former Waldwick resident who will be overseeing the renovation project; and to interact with members of Habitat’s board of directors. Residents who spoke at the meeting expressed support for the project and offered suggestions for recruiting volunteers and fundraising. Some expressed concern about traffic flow at the busy intersection during construction but were told that no heavy equipment would be needed because it is an existing building and no additions are planned. Susan Safire, Habitat’s executive director, said that the 1919 - 2009 Habitat unveils plans; seeks funds, volunteers renovation work would begin sometime this month after all permits have been received and should take about nine months to complet. Bergen County approval is necessary because the site is on a county road. She said that the organization is currently in the process of doing pre-construction work, which involves putting up stairs for safety reasons and removing all debris and rocks.
