Holiday cakes and pies available The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will once again host the Carousel Cake and Pie Sale just in time for the holidays. Friends plan Craft Fair The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library’s Craft Fair is set for Saturday, Dec. 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lower level of the library. Newcomers host holiday dinner dance The Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club is hosting its Annual Holiday Dinner Dance on Saturday, Dec. 12 from 7:30 p.m. to midnight. The event will be held at The Brick House, 79 Godwin Avenue, Wyckoff. The dinner dance will include cocktails, a buffet dinner, open bar, and dancing until midnight to the music of Sunset Soundz. Choirs to perform holiday concert Saddle River Day School will present a holiday concert at the annual Holiday Festival at Tice Corner Marketplace in Woodcliff Lake on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. The school’s men’s women’s and concert choirs and the renowned SRDS Show Choir, a select group of 16 students, will be singing and dancing to holiday favorites. The event will include the annual tree lighting and a visit by Santa Claus, who will arrive on a Woodcliff Lake fire truck, greet the children, and hand out treats until 7:30 p.m. All are invited. Friday Afternoon Flicks offered The Upper Saddle River Library, 245 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River, will present Friday Afternoon Flicks on the first Friday of the month in the new surround sound media center at noon. The Dec. 4 feature will be “The Apartment.” Refreshments will be served. Prostate cancer support group to meet LifeLines, a supportive and informative resource for prostate cancer patients and their partners in Northern Bergen County, will meet Tuesday, Nov. 24 from 7:45 to 9 p.m. at the Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River. The group was formed by prostate cancer patients to share information and experience about available treatment and service resources. Club hosts holiday events The Saddle River Valley Junior Woman’s Club is getting into the holiday spirit with a toy drive for needy children and a holiday cookie exchange. The Juniors will be accepting toys for children at the USR Christmas Tree Lighting on Dec. 5. Participants are asked to bring the toys unwrapped. Holiday Boutique underway The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library’s Holi- day Boutique will continue now through Dec. 31. The library is located at 245 Lake Street. Lions Club recycles eyeglasses For more than 60 years, Lions clubs have been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling. Donated glasses are either given to support local eyeglass recycling efforts or shipped to one of seven official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club has placed “eyeglass collection boxes” through the club area. Gold and purple boxes with the Lions logo can be found at the following locations: Mahwah: Bank of America, Town Hall, Library and a drive up white box at 190 Franklin Turnpike; Ramsey: Town Hall, Library, Ramsey High School, Quality Optical (Main Street); Saddle River: Bank of America; and Upper Saddle River: Library. Annual run is this weekend The Eleventh Dick Meighan Memorial Run will be held Thursday, Nov. 26, at 9 a.m. at Cavallini Middle School, 392 West Saddle River Road, Upper Saddle River. This year’s event is expected to attract more than 2,000 participants. The charity race, named in memory of beloved Upper Saddle River resident Dick Meighan, is both a competitive road race and a fundraiser for DARE; the borough’s rescue squad, ambulance corps, and fire department; the Upper Saddle River Youth Triathlon; Saddle River Service Corps; Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America; the Upper Saddle River Education Foundation; and the “Extra Mile” Scholarship Fund. In the last 10 years, more than $150,000 has been donated to these organizations. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers and to family teams and participants in various age categories. The first 1,800 participants receive a long sleeve cotton shirt. Pre-registration is recommended. Mail-in and on-line options are explained at www.dickmeighan5Krun.org. The fee is $20 in advance and $25 on race day. Pre-registered racers may pick up their shirt, race number, and timing chip Nov. 25 between 7 and 9:30 p.m. at Cavallini Middle School. Support group offered Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River is offering a support program for individuals going through separation and divorce. Participants will learn the process of change, communication, and self-awareness while discovering a path for human growth and self esteem. Teams of trained facilitators will assist in coaching the emotions of grief, anger, guilt, loneliness, fear, anxiety, depression, forgiveness, and self-love.
