The certification from the Council on Affordable Housing takes note of the 10 units being constructed on one part of the 3.4-acre Orchard Commons tract, which Allendale saved one jump ahead of the bulldozer from being turned into 24 townhouse units in eight separate buildings. Housing will also be construct on the Foreit site on West Crescent Avenue, which the borough recently acquired; a rental unit will be added to the existing Allendale Senior Housing tract on Cebak Court; and a West Crescent Avenue house will be turned into a three-bedroom unit for the developmentally disabled. Affordable housing plan earns state’s approval Allendale Mayor Vince Barra noted that all units would be paid for without any direct impact on the borough’s taxpayers. The Orchard Commons park was also acquired with a combination of donated local funds, Bergen County Open Space, and New Jersey Green Acres money and without direct impact on the taxpayers. In other recent events, Laura Byro has been named Allendale’s first poet laureate. She will write poems for special occasions. J.
