Borough’s mayor named Ridgewood’s village manager
by John Koster Kenneth Gabbert, mayor of Upper Saddle River and a veteran of three top administrative posts in Bergen County, is now the village manager of Ridgewood. He will take over the reins from Interim Manager Heather Mailander this week. Gabbert, who was until last week the administrator of Little Ferry, was appointed to his new post at the Oct. 28 council meeting. “I’m looking forward to helping preserve the tradition of good administration in Ridgewood and to continue to give the quality of services that Ridgewood is famous for preserving,” Gabbert said at last week’s meeting. Gabbert received his bachelor’s degree, MBA, and Ph. D from Arizona State University and taught in the Arizona school system before he moved into the private sector managing technical colleges for industry. He spent 18 years in private industry work, which drew him to New York and New Jersey. In 1999, he obtained his certification as a chief financial officer under a program supervised by Rutgers University. He served as chief financial officer of New Milford for approximately two years, administrator of Westwood for three years, and ultimately administrator of Little Ferry for the past three and a half years. Gabbert has been Upper Saddle River’s mayor since 2004. He previously served as a councilman from 1995 through 2003. He has served as chairman of the USR Centennial Committee, and an EMT member on the USR Volunteer Ambulance Corps. Gabbert has also served as a planning board
