Page 8 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • May 27, 2009 Waldwick Michael Brennecke of Waldwick, an employee of the Waldwick Department of Public Works, is being honored as a hero for his involvement in saving the life of a fellow employee last November. He and other area residents will be recognized at the 11th Annual Heroes Breakfast on Wednesday, June 3 sponsored by the Northern New Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross and Unilever. Brennecke, also a member of the Waldwick Volunteer Fire Department, was on break when he saw a co-worker choking. When the person indicated that he needed assistance Michael performed abdominal thrusts which dislodged the food and allowed him to breathe. “Recycle employee Daniel Miller was on morning break in the Public Works Building lunchroom at 19 Industrial Resident being honored for saving co-worker Park. While eating he experienced difficulties with food lodge. Michael Brennecke noticed Danny in distress and asked if he needed help. Danny shook his head yes. Michael Brennecke performed the Heimlich maneuver to Danny, dislodging the food product and allowing Danny to breathe,” explained Joseph A. Agugliaro, Waldwick superintendent/public works manager, in his letter nominating Brennecke for the award. “This is a wonderful event that gives us the opportunity to honor people (and a dog) doing good deeds in our communities,” commented Nancy Karole Kennedy, Red Cross relationship manager. Among others being honored at the breakfast will be the NY Waterway ferry captains that assisted with US Airways Flight 1549. The honorees are selected by a committee charged with choosing “local heroes who have helped save a life!” Committee members from this area include Dick Scott and Amy Rattner of Ridgewood; Susan Kyritsopoulos of Upper Saddle River and Annabella Curran (Co – Chair) of Westwood.
