Garden Club to discuss raising chickens The Saddle River Garden will meet at 7 p.m. on May 19 at a member’s home. The topic will be how to raise chickens in Upper Saddle River. The hostess has been raising chickens for years in her yard and now has begun beekeeping. New members are welcome to attend and should RSVP to Margaret Meyers at (201) 934-7862. Wrestling clinic offered The Pascack Wrestling Clinic will be held June 29 through July 2 and July 6 through July 10 at the Wandell School, 97 East Allendale Road in Saddle River, from 9:30 a.m. to noon. Coach Bucky Rehain, clinic director, has recently been inducted to the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Wrestlers will learn wrestling techniques such as takedown and pinning. The clinic is open to all wrestlers ages seven through 15. For more information contact Coach Bucky at (201) 825-3767. Youth Triathlon set The Youth Triathlon, scheduled for Saturday, June 6, will incorporate swimming, biking, and running and is opened to all children ages eight through 14. The children will begin their swim at the Saddle River Valley Swim & Tennis Club, bike to Lions Park, and finish the running portion of the triathlon at Lions Park. The swimming, biking, and running distances will be different for the two separate age groups of children. Special fundraisers, food, and prizes will be set up at the finish line in Lions Park. Newcomers seek members Saddle River Valley Newcomers Club welcomes new members from Saddle River and Upper Saddle River and surrounding communities. Membership dues for Saddle River and Upper Saddle River residents are $40; dues for out of area residents are $50. The club plans many social events throughout the year. Republican Club hosts council candidates The Upper Saddle River Republican Club will meet May 26 in the Powers Room of the Upper Saddle River Library. Council candidates Dr. Joanne Florio and Vincent Durante will present their views on current issues in Upper Saddle River. A discussion will follow about the important June 2 primary election, which will decide who will be on the ballot in November for the offices of New Jersey governor, Bergen County Freeholder, 39th District members of the NJ Assembly, and Upper Saddle River Council. There will also be an open forum discussion of the recent federal initiatives. Refreshments will be served at 7:30 p.m. and the meeting will start at 7:45 p.m. All members are welcome. Tennis permits available for 2009 Tennis permits for the use of the Upper Saddle River tennis courts on West Saddle River Road will be available at borough hall. class will be held every Tuesday morning at 9:45 a.m. At 11 a.m., Cece will lead a brand new seniors’ class called Gentle Stretch Yoga. Classes will run approximately one hour. Registration is required. Cece’s classes are designed to develop strength, coordination, and flexibility, and to relieve stress and anxiety and sharpen mental focus. Enrollment is limited. The Upper Saddle River Library is located at 245 Lake Street. Wandell School Pre-K offers new options The Wandell School will be offering two new preschool options in September 2009. The four-year-old class will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The three-year-old program will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon with the option of extended days one or two days per week. Tuition for the four-year-old program will be $8,000. Tuition for the three-year-old program will be $4,000, with tuition of $4,800 with one extended day and $5,600 with two extended days: Tuesday and/or Wednesday until 2 p.m. The Wandell School preschool curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Learning. The program encompasses many areas of development including, social, physical, cognitive, and language. Parents are welcome to visit the program with their child. Children must be three or four respectively for the three- or four-year-old program by Oct. 1, 2009 and must be toilet trained. The program is open to out-of-town residents. Chat & Stitch at the library Drop in and relax with a current needlework project and join in conversation with other stitchers on Wednesdays from noon to 1 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library, 345 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River. Whether it is a knitting, quilting, needlepoint, embroidery, beading, or crocheting project, everyone is welcome to join this Chat & Stitch program. Refreshments will be served.
