Petrov Ballet School presents first Spring Gala
Petrov Ballet School, which first opened its doors in October 2008, will hold its first Spring Gala, featuring the studio’s ballet and character students and professional guest artists, in a performance on Saturday, May 30. The Spring Gala will be the highlight of the school year. The performance will include the “Pas d’action” from “La Bayadère,” a world-renowned classical ballet; “Bedtime Ballyhoo,” an original shortstory ballet for younger children; and an exciting divertissement of character dances. Guest artists from New Jersey Ballet, Festival Ballet, and formerly American Ballet Theater will be performing along with the students of Petrov Ballet School in this professional-style production. Advanced students will be performing the “Pas d’action” from Act I of “La Bayadère.” This excerpt from a famous ballet is full of breathtaking classical dancing. Erica Chipp of Festival Ballet and Eugene Petrov, artistic director of Petrov Ballet, will dance the principal roles of Gamzatti and Solor. “Bedtime Ballyhoo the Ballet” is an original short-story ballet choreographed by Petrov. A newly published children’s storybook, “Bedtime Ballyhoo,” by Nicki Granata Bosch, with lively illustrations by Mike Moran, was the inspiration for this work. Junio Teixeira and Sergio Amarante of New Jersey Ballet will be dancing as lead characters in this piece. Also featured will be several of Petrov’s signature “Character Dance Divertissement,” including the Italian “Tarantella” and Georgian “Lezginka.” Petrov Ballet’s younger pupils will perform a fun-filled “Russian Dance.” As a celebration of Petrov Ballet’s first Spring Gala, special guest artists Anna Liceica and Eric Otto, formerly with American Ballet Theater and New York City Ballet, will perform a classical Pas de Deux. The gala performance will be held Saturday, May 30 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Sharp Theater, Berrie Center for the Arts, Ramapo College, Mahwah. Tickets are $20 advance purchase and $25 at the door.
