PLANT A TREE FOR Ho-Ho-Kus Jottings YAC Field Day coming up The Youth Activities Council of the Contemporary Club of Ho-Ho-Kus is sponsoring YAC Family Field Day 2009 following the VFW Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 25 at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School. Field Day events are for children who will be entering kindergarten in the fall through the eighth grade. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants and to first, second, and third place winners. Boy Scout Troop 54 will be selling grilled hot dogs and refreshments, with the proceeds going to the Center for Food Action. Registration begins at noon on May 25. Auxiliary offers homemade pies The Ladies Auxiliary of the Ho-Ho-Kus Fire Department is now taking orders for its Homemade Pie Sale. Orders must be received by May 18 and can be picked up at the Ho-Ho-Kus Firehouse on May 25 after the Memorial Day ceremony. Pies are nine inches and will be sold for $15 each. Choose apple, cherry, or blueberry. Orders can be sent by sending name, address, phone number and e-mail address along with $15 per pie ordered to: HHKFD Ladies Auxiliary, P.O. Box 637, Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ 07423. Gardeners offer scholarships Applications for the Ho-Ho-Kus Garden Club’s annual academic scholarship awards will be accepted until June 1. Established in memory of Nina McNamara and Charles Anderson, the scholarship fund is supported by the club’s annual Plant Sale, to be held on May 16. To qualify, an applicant must be a current resident of Bergen County and an enrolled student studying or planning to study environmental science or related fields, including horticulture and botany. There is no age limit and returning students are encouraged to apply. Scholarships of up to $1,000 will be awarded. Family Pasta Dinner set The Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus will hold a Family Pasta Dinner Friday, May 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church at 400 Warren Avenue. Everyone is welcome. All proceeds will go towards the Church Improvement Fund. The cost is $12 for adults, $10 for children under 10. For further information, call the church office at (201) 445-6310. Veerling to exhibit The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library will feature photographer Sue Veerling as the artist for the month of May. Veerling will present photographs of her favorite subjects: flora, fauna, wildlife, and more. All are welcome to view the exhibit. The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library is located at 91 Warren Avenue. Woman’s Club donates park benches The Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club has purchased two picnic benches for the Hollywood Avenue Park as one of the club’s community projects. The benches will be placed in the park during the month of May. The Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club meets monthly on the first Monday of the month, and welcomes new members to enjoy fellowship and varied program. Call (201) 652-2236.
