Waldwick March 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 7 Waldwick’s newly elected councilman, Frank Palladino, is the latest community leader to participate in the Waldwick Public Library’s Poster Campaign to Promote Reading. In keeping with the tradition of the library’s literacy program, Palladino will read to young children at Storytime on a Tuesday in April. In addition, a striking poster of Palladino holding a copy of “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee will be displayed in the lobby of the library through Thursday, April 30. The councilman chose to be photographed with this book, which he described as follows: “It is a compelling story about a court appointed attorney, Atticus Finch, who is called upon to represent a wrongly accused black defendant in racially segregated Alabama. Based solely on his understanding of right and wrong, Finch makes an unpopu- Councilman promotes reading at public library lar decision to prove the man’s innocence and suffers the consequences of threats and mistreatment by his peers, neighbors, and former friends.” Palladino is serving his first term as a member of the Waldwick Borough Council and is chairman of the Buildings and Grounds Committee. The councilman, who holds a BS in electrical engineering and an MBA in international business, is employed as director of quality assurance at a manufacturing facility in Orangeburg, New York. A 15year resident of the borough, Palladino is president of the Italian American Social Club of Waldwick. The eye-catching poster of Councilman Palladino on display in the lobby of the library was designed by professional photographer and Library Trustee Bill Smithuysen. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street and is open from 10 to 9 Monday through Thursday and from 10 to 5 Friday and Saturday. For information, call (201) 652-5104.
