Film series highlights leading men Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction setting the film in its historical context, precedes each screening. The theme for the month of March is “Famous Men of the Movies.” The schedule of screenings is as follows: March 5, “Rebecca” starring Lawrence Olivier; March 12, “The Third Man” starring Orson Welles; March 19, “Shadow of a Doubt” starring Joseph Cotten; and March 26, “Letter to Three Wives” starring Kirk Douglas. Book club to discuss Alsanea novel The Waldwick Library Book Club will host a discussion of Rajaa Alsanea’s “Girls of Riyadh” on Thursday, March 12 at 7:15 p.m. Alsanea’s debut novel, which sparked controversy in her native Saudi Arabia, concerns four wealthy Muslim girlfriends who support each other in the quest for the perfect husband. Copies of the book are available at the library circulation desk. The book club welcomes new members or dropins regardless of residency. The library is located at 19 East Prospect Street in Waldwick. Auxiliary plans meeting The Waldwick Valley Hospital Auxiliary will hold its next meeting on Wednesday, March 4, at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Waldwick Methodist Church located on Franklin Turnpike. Annual Fish & Chips Dinner planned The Waldwick United Methodist Church is holding its Annual Fish and Chips Dinner on Monday, March 9 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. On the menu will be fish, chips, coleslaw, dessert, and a beverage. Chicken orders will be available. The cost is $12 per ticket; eat in or take out. The dinner is being catered by Tastefully British. Takeout orders will begin being served at 5 p.m. and eat in orders will begin at 5:30 p.m. Tickets may be purchased by calling the church office at (201) 652-5130 before noon. The deadline for ticket orders is Monday, March 2. Sponsors sought for 5K Run The Waldwick Chamber of Commerce is seeking businesses to help sponsor the Second Annual 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk scheduled for April 26. The course has been certified and sanctioned by the USATF, giving the event recognition as an official running course in New Jersey. This certification will help draw serious runners.
