Summer art camp is an environment where children grow in confidence and ability. It is a non-competitive atmosphere that promotes creative thinking and the development of problem solving skills while participants learn art techniques and explore new materials. This supportive and relaxed atmosphere promotes the continued development of social, fine motor, cognitive, and language skills through instruction and experimentation.
SCHOOLS & CAMPS Art camp is a cool choice for the summer
Art history and multiculturalism are infused to provide the campers with a greater understanding of the evolution of art and its role in society. The curriculum includes multicultural themes and an exploration of the lives of famous artists in combination with art lessons for a rewarding experience for students at any age and skill level. Personalized instruction by experienced teachers allows students to feel confident. When students’ work is admired by their peers, they feel good about themselves and realize the value of their talents. Creating art fosters whole brain development and
helps develop problem-solving skills. In addition, art projects develop fine motor skills and eye/hand coordination through activities such as cutting, pasting, clay building, painting, and drawing. Art is a gift, but much can be learned through practice. With proper instruction and guidance, a student can learn techniques that can be practiced. For example, pencil drawing students learn basic skills such as holding the pencil properly and angling it to create shading. Learning these skills leads the way to working in color with pastel, oil, (continued on next page)
