Waldwick June 17, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Dillon Sherman of Waldwick recently capped his successful career in Boy Scouting by being honored for achieving the rank of Eagle Scout; Scouting’s highest level of accomplishment. The Court of Honor, held at the Forum School in Waldwick, was attended by Waldwick Mayor Russell “Buddy” Litchult, Council Members Chuck Farricker and Andy Brennecke, representatives from the state and county, and many friends and family members. Sherman received numerous citations and letters from dignitaries ranging from former Presidents Bush and Carter, 24 governors, and many members of the United States Congress. As a Boy Scout, Sherman earned 36 merit badges and held over 11 leadership positions. His Eagle Project was focused on restoring the gazebo in Waldwick’s Borough Park. The Scout assembled a hard working crew of fellow Scouts and other supporters, including his mother, Terry Sherman, and his father, former Waldwick Councilman Ed Sherman. The gazebo, which was built in 1994, was power washed and meticulously stained, rung by rung and one roof shingle at a time. Sherman then led the team in excavating around the gazebo and constructing a decorative rock wall to surround it. The team then brought in top soil and numerous flowering shrubs to put the final touches on the restoration project. A total of 288 person hours was devoted to this project, and Sherman was able to secure donations from many local organizations and businesses. Now a senior at Waldwick High School, the new Eagle Scout will attend Mount Saint Mary College in Maryland this fall. He plans to study criminal justice.
