Page 18 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • June 17, 2009 Ho-Ho-Kus Ducky Derby Day draws over 3,000 participants Over 3,000 members of the community turned out for the Fifth Annual Ducky Derby Day in Ho-Ho-Kus. This year’s event was a benefit for the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School and for the Ho-Ho-Kus Recreation Commission. The day’s festivities included refreshments, carnival rides and games, a performance by the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Ellis, a demonstration from a martial arts academy, magic by Peter Pitchford, and an interactive show that focused on the Hermitage and the borough’s history. The highlight of the day, the rubber duck race down the Ho-Ho-Kus Brook, officially began when Ho-Ho-Kus Mayor Thomas Randall released the ducks. Anna Giordan won the Grand Prize package, which includes dinner for six at the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn and a youth mountain bike. Winners also included Alexis Hamm, second place; Garret Hamm, third place; Jessica Reilly, fourth place; Matthew Aversa, fifth place; Florence Tyler, sixth place; and Hanna Doherty, seventh place. Three winners tied for eighth place, including Superintendent of Schools Deborah Ferrara, James Hughes, and Brendon Hamm. Riley Cohan’s rubber duck earned him the Slacker Quacker Award. Winners of the children’s art contest included: Jake Schwartz, first place overall and first place for grade eight; Nicole Feudi, first place for grade seven; Amanda Whitely, first place for grade six; Jack Higgins, first place for grade five; Dominick Leskiw, first place for grade four; and Danielle Moore, first place for grade three. Event organizers ask everyone to save June 5, 2010, which will has already been designated as the date of the sixth annual derby. Community members join for a day of fun.
