Lions Carnival comes to town th The 15 Annual Guardian Angel/Wyckoff Lions Club Carnival will be held on the premises of Guardian Angel Church in Allendale June 2 through 7. Highlights of the carnival will be food, prizes, games, and rides including the giant slide, bumper cars, and fun house. There will also be kiddie rides for the younger set. Guardian Angel Church is located at 320 Franklin Turnpike on the corner of West Allendale Avenue in Allendale. Carnival hours are Tuesday through Saturday 6 to 10 p.m. and Sunday 1 to 6 p.m. Wrist band nights, where guests are allowed to ride all evening for $20, will be June 3 and 7. Cub Scout registration begins Open registration for Allendale Cub Scouts has started for 2009-10. All boys living in Allendale in the ﬁrst through ﬁfth grades are eligible to join. Scouting provides a fun environment where boys can develop character, learn values, and gain self-conﬁdence while embarking on exciting adventures. Committee seeks pledges for park The Orchard Common Park Citizens Advisory Committee has begun its 2009 campaign to complete Phase II of the park. Between now and the park’s grand opening on June 14, the committee hopes to secure pledges for the ﬁnal $210,000 needed to complete this project. More than $4 million has already been secured to acquire the property and reclaim the park. The ﬁrst phase of improvements was completed last winter. The next phase, scheduled for completion in June, will dramatically enhance the landscaping, add an irrigation system and seating, and other commemorative features. The Citizens Advisory Committee is seeking donations or pledges from residents, businesses, and friends who would like to help preserve a signature element of the community. Sponsorship opportunities include brick pavers, seating, gardens, trees, a commemorative circle, and river birch grove. Sponsors have until Dec. 31, 2011 to fulﬁll their pledges. Summer reading events planned The Allendale Library will be offering programs for children of all ages and their families this summer. Stop by the library after June 22 to sign up for the Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme is Be Creative at Your Library, celebrating the arts. There is a club for children who are still being read to and one for independent readers. The ﬁrst 50 children who sign up will receive a special prize. The Summer Reading Club Kick-off party with Mark the Magician will be on Friday, June 26 at 2:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served after the performance, and all in attendance will be eligible to win prizes. A family concert featuring The City Winds Trio is scheduled for July 20 at 7 p.m. The trio is back by popular demand. The concert is free and for residents for all ages. The Children’s Department will be offering various story time and craft sessions throughout the summer.
