Under its terms, the WCA will pay a yearly insurance premium of $1,800. The insurance was a huge sticking point in the negotiations process, since Transit originally wanted $20,000 a year. An environmental study will also be conducted, even though it’s not a requirement. The WCA has three years to cancel the lease if any problems develop. Besides the Murder Mystery, a previous wine tasting party and Oktoberfest, and an antique car show scheduled for this Sunday, June 7, the Alliance hopes to sponsor other events in the coming months to raise funds for the restoration effort and to highlight what Waldwick has to offer. “It is not just about raising money. It’s about people going downtown, having a great time and being exposed to great businesses,” Cowie said. “I have been told that in the past 40 years, there have been at least seven organizations or individuals who have tried to acquire and restore the Waldwick Train Station, but only the WCA has succeeded due to its commitment to restoring the area and its willingness to go toe-to-toe with local, county and state governments to get it done. And we cannot be more proud to do this for the people of Waldwick,” Cowie concluded. Once completed, the building will become a museum and community meeting place.
