Obituaries
Andrea S. Auleta of Ramsey died July 19. She was 30. She is survived by her son Christian Auleta, her mother Rosa Auleta (nee Ferreira), and her siblings Daniel, Sandra, and Christine Auleta. She was predeceased by her son Jacob Auleta and her father Omar Auleta. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Ferentinos, nee Visconti, of Midland Park, formerly of Ridgefield and Wyckoff, died July 17. She was 84. She was co-owner of The Trolley Stop Diner in Franklin Lakes and a homemaker. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Wyckoff. She was a volunteer with Kurth Cottage at Valley Hospital as a member of the Midland Park Women’s Auxiliary. She is survived by her children Peggy Vesta, Jayne Schmitz, and Matthew Visconti; her son-in-law Donald Conti; her stepchildren Jamie and Jerry Ferentinos; nine grandchildren; and her siblings Carl, Joseph, Ann, Katie and Joan. She was predeceased by her husband James Ferentinos, her daughter Patricia D. Conti, and her brother Frank. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. He was a practicing child psychologist at Hackensack Hospital until he moved to Columbus, Ohio where he pursued a 27-year career in arts and antiques. He is survived by his mother Marilyn, his sister Karen Buckler, and his niece Tracy Buckler. He was predeceased by his father Fred Hannaman. Arrangements were made by C.C. She was involved with the Catholic Church. She is survived by her children Kathy and Robert, two grandchildren, and her brother Edward. John A. “Jack” MacInnis of Franklin Lakes died July 20. He was 82. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He was an engineer and worked for IBM, Howell Instruments and Tridon Sales Corp of Cresskill. He was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church in Wyckoff. He is survived by his sisters, Jessie MacInnis of Brooklyn, New York and Jean McGolrick of McLean, Virginia, nine nieces and nephews, and 14 grand nieces and nephews. He is survived by his children William of Ramsey, Carol Olb of Ramsey and Janet Recktenwald of Butler, two grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and his sister Martha Haskell of Texas. He was 92. He served as a propulsion engineer with Wright Aeronautical in New Jersey during World War II. He had successful careers in heavy equipment consulting and as a restaurateur. He was a member of the Marathon Yacht Club and the Wing and Shot Hunt Club. He is survived by his children Ruth Sisler Morine of Great Falls, Virginia, Drew Sisler and Helen S. Szymanski both of Glen Rock, and six grandchildren. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. Students named to Dean’s Lists The following Allendale students have been named to the Dean’s Lists at their colleges and universities for the spring 2009 semester: Nicole Struyk at William Paterson University in Wayne; Staci A. McCormick at Rowan University in Glassboro; and Jenna Schwartz at Endicott College in Beverly, Massachusetts. Town-Wide Garage Sale planned Allendale residents are invited to participate in the Allendale Woman’s Club Sixth Annual Town-Wide Garage Sale. The event will be held on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Dig out those unwanted treasures hidden away in an attic, basement, closet, or garage. A discounted registration fee will be offered to all residents who sign up by July 30. Summer reading program begins The “Four Towns, Three Months, Two Books, One Hot Topic” summer reading program is about to begin. Over 1,000 individuals voted on this summer’s selections for the topic “Child Soldiers of Africa.” The fiction selection is “What is the What” by Dave Eggers and the non-fiction choice is “A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier” by Ishmael Beah. The second related movie evening will feature the documentary “Daratt” (dry season) a 2006 film from Chad on Aug. 12 at 8 p.m. The movie will be shown in the Northern Highlands High School auditorium. The program will wrap up with an evening event planned for Wednesday, Sept. 30 at Northern Highlands. The evening will include book discussions, performances, speakers, and accounts of their journey from the students going on the summer trip to Tanzania. Summer reading events planned The Allendale Library will be offering programs for children of all ages and their families this summer. Stop by the library to sign up for the Summer Reading Club. This year’s theme, Be Creative at Your Library, celebrates the arts. There is a club for children who are still being read to, and one for independent readers. The first 50 children who sign up will receive a special prize. The children’s department will offer various story time and craft sessions throughout the summer.
