Golden Club plans events The Golden Club of Waldwick is planning a Valentine’s Day luncheon for Saturday, Feb. 14 at noon. The luncheon will be held at The Village Grill in Waldwick. The cost per member will be $14 and includes soup or salad, beef, fish or chicken, and coffee and dessert. On Friday, March 13 the group will travel to the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse for a phenomenal live band and show, “Music of America.” Cost will be $54 for members and $55 for non-members. Lacrosse registration set The Waldwick Lacrosse Association will be holding a sign-up on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Knights of Columbus on Smith Street. This program is open to boys and girls in grades three through eight. The cost of registration is $135 and includes memberships to the U.S. Lacrosse Association. Casino Night set The Waldwick Middle School PSO Casino Night is set for Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009 from 6:30 to 11:30 p.m. at Seasons in Washington Township. Tickets are $75 per person. Restoration fundraiser planned The Waldwick Community Alliance is hosting a wine tasting at Saint Luke’s R.C. Church on Saturday, Feb. 7 from 7 to 10 p.m. Sponsored by Maratene’s Fine Wine and Spirits in Waldwick, the evening will include several quality wines, beer, cheeses, and gourmet sandwiches for $40 per person. All proceeds from this event and 20 percent of wine sales from the evening will benefit the restoration of the Waldwick Train Station. Tickets may be purchased online at www.waldwickcommunity alliance.org or by calling (201) 873-8919 or at the door. Military Bridge at Traphagen Waldwick’s Julia A. Traphagen School will host its Eleventh Annual Military Bridge and Fundraiser on Friday, Feb. 6. (Snow date: Feb. 7.) This evening of “tournament” cards includes great prize baskets and special fundraisers. The doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are sold in groups of four. Tickets are $15 each, for a total of $60 per table. The cost of the ticket includes entry, one sheet of tickets, door prize ticket, and refreshments. Tickets will be delivered to participants. All donations will be recognized at the event. All proceeds go to benefit and support the students and teachers of Julia A. Traphagen Elementary School in Waldwick. Kindergarten registration scheduled Registration for the September 2009 kindergarten classes in Waldwick will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 28 at 9 a.m. at Julia A. Traphagen School and at 1:30 p.m. at Crescent School. Parents or guardians must bring a birth certificate or other proof of age as well as two proofs of residency. Acceptable residency proofs include utility bills with the name and address and a lease, deed, or tax bill for the residence. To be eligible for next fall’s class, children must be five years old on or before Oct. 1, have had a complete physical examination after Sept. 1, 2008, and have complete immunization against diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, poliomyelitis, rubella, rubeola, mumps, hepatitis B, and chicken pox. Parents or guardians must furnish a written record of the month, day, and year of all immunizations. Registration forms are available at both Crescent and Traphagen Schools during school hours. Anyone who cannot attend registration should call the school office Crescent School at (201) 445-0690/Traphagen School at (201) 445-0730 as soon as possible. Parents of private school kindergarten students who are planning to attend a Waldwick Public School for first grade in September 2009 are also asked to register their children by Jan. 28. These students must meet the same immunization requirements as kindergarteners. Pet licenses now available January is dog license renewal month. Owners whose pet’s rabies inoculation is valid through at least October of this year may renew by mail by downloading the application at the Waldwick website. The fee is $13.50 for spayed dogs and $16.50 for unspayed dogs when renewing by mail. Renew in person during regular office hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Bring or mail any updated rabies inoculation information.
Classic film screenings at library The Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. On Jan. 29, “Dead Ringer” will be the feature. Registration for the Classic Film Series is not necessary; however arrival before 2 p.m. is encouraged. Call (201) 652-5104. Legion welcomes new members The American Legion Post #57, which serves Allendale, Ramsey, Midland Park, Upper Saddle River, Saddle River, Waldwick, and Wyckoff, welcomes new members. The group meets the second Thursday of the month at 7 p.m. Every Thursday afternoon there is a social at 1 p.m. with shuffleboard, pool, cards, and spirited conversation on the agenda. ESL group meets at library The ESL conversation group that meets weekly at the Waldwick Public Library has resumed meeting at 10:15 a.m. on Mondays. Registration is taken at the library throughout the year. In an expansion of its ESL program, the library will hold an ESL basic class that will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The ESL conversation group and ESL basic class are free and open to adults who want assistance learning and speaking English. For more information call (201) 652-5104. School Box Tops fundraiser continues Crescent School in Waldwick will continue its box top collection program. Collection boxes are available at the Stop and Shop in Waldwick, through the Golden Agers of Waldwick, and the St. Lucans at St. Luke’s. Monthly scrapbooking crops set Scrappers of NJ currently hosts a monthly get together on the third Friday of every month from 5 to 11 p.m., at the Waldwick Ambulance Building. The fee is $5. Snacks, drinks, prizes, and a tool table are provided. Bring your pictures and supplies, and come ready to crop. Please no children under 10 years of age.
