This program is sponsored by G.I.F.T. (Growing in Faith and Theology), a collaboration of Adult Faith Formation Ministries from 10 area Catholic Churches, including Saint Catharine’s Glen Rock and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Ridgewood. Anger management workshop available Is anger affecting your work or your family? Starting in February, West Bergen Mental Healthcare will offer a series of six workshops for individuals who have trouble controlling their anger. The series will begin Feb. 10 and run through March 17. Topics to be addressed will be: anger triggers, how to deal with criticism, strategies for anger control, and peer support. The workshops will also provide instruction on appropriate tools for self-talk and self-regulation, as well as open discussion and role-playing in a safe, confidential environment. In addition, homework will be given on a weekly basis. The fee for each workshop is $60 per session or $360 for the series of six sessions. A sliding scale fee will be offered to those who show financial eligibility. West Bergen professionals will facilitate the program. Participation is limited. Knights plan Fish & Chips Dinner The Midland Park Knights of Columbus will hold the annual Fish & Chips Dinner on the first Friday in Lent, Feb. 27 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. The dinner will be held in Kennedy Hall at the Church of the Nativity. The cost of the dinner is $12.50. Argyle’s will provide the dinner. Macaroni and cheese will be available for children for $3. Dinners will be available for take out. College Club hosts storyteller Regina Ress, an award-winning storyteller and educator, will be the guest speaker for the College Club on Feb. 3. The meeting will be held at the Ridgewood Library. Ress has appeared on Broadway and toured regional theater. She has told stories professionally across the U.S. and was invited to share her storytelling at The White House. Ress has been a board member of the New York Storytelling Center for a decade and is the New York Metro Liaison to the National Storytelling Network. Ress teaches a graduate course on storytelling for NYU-Steinhardt’s program in educational theater and produces the storytelling series at the historic Provincetown Playhouse, which features national and international storytellers. Ress will recite love stories -- old ones, new ones, funny ones, and maybe even some true ones, at the 1 p.m. meeting. Guest fee for the program is $10. North Jersey Chorus seeks voices The North Jersey Chorus, a community, mixed choral group, under the direction of Christine Vella Lovette, will resume weekly rehearsals on Wednesday beginning Jan. 28 at 7:45 p.m. The rehearsals will be held at the First Reformed Church of Hawthorne, 259 Lafayette Avenue in Hawthorne. J.T. Bolger presents Christian Health Care Center and CEO Douglas A. Struyk with a check for $1 million from the Bolger Foundation as David F. Bolger looks on. The funds will be dedicated to the completion of renovations to a nurses’ station in the Center’s Ramapo Ridge Psychiatric Hospital and the expansion of the CHCC post-acute care unit. This is the single largest gift CHCC has received to date. In the new post-acute care unit, patients who are discharged from an acute-care hospital will receive intensive rehabilitation services from a team of physical and occupational therapists, and round-the-clock skilled nursing care. This unit aims to improve functioning and skills so that patients can return home. The Bolger Foundation has supported other initiatives at CHCC, including the renovation of two nurses’ stations in Heritage Manor Nursing Home, renovation of residents’ rooms, nursing scholarships, and challenged the Center to raise matching funds for the Great Room at Heritage Manor East and the expansion of Ramapo Ridge Psychiatric Hospital. Located in Wyckoff, the non-profit Christian Health Care Center has been serving the community since 1911, providing a broad scope of mental-health and elder-care programs. Foundation supports CHCC The first of two concerts performed each year will be given in May of 2009. The group is now recruiting new members in all voice parts. Women’s heart health group forming The Valley Hospital Center for Women’s Heart Health has established a support group to provide education and emotional support for women diagnosed with heart disease. Heart disease is not just a man’s disease. Heart attack, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases are devastating to women, too. In fact, according to the American Heart Association, coronary heart disease, which causes heart attack, is the leading cause of death for American women. Unfortunately, according to the AHA, most women are not aware of the dangers of heart disease or of the steps they can take to reduce their risk for a heart attack or stroke. The Women’s Heart Health Support Group will meet on the third Thursday of each month from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the hospital’s board room. The first meeting will be held on Thursday, March 19. Pre-registration is requested. The Valley Hospital Center for Women’s Heart Health offers a comprehensive heart risk assessment that can identify if a woman is at increased risk for heart disease. Auditions begin for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ The Y Theater Arts Program at the Wyckoff YMCA has called auditions for a spring presentation of Disney’s “Beauty & the Beast.” Audition dates are Wednesday, Jan. 28 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sessions will be held on the lower level of the Y at 691 Wyckoff Avenue, Wyckoff. Callbacks, if necessary, will be held on Feb. 1. Rehearsals will start on Feb. 5. The show will be held the weekend of May 14, 15, 16, and 17. Performers should be prepared to sing a song from the show or a piece that best shows vocal and acting quality. Singers should bring their own music. An accompanist will be provided. All roles are non-paid and non-union. “Beauty & the Beast” will be the second presentation by the newly formed YMCA in-house theatrical company, Y Arts.
