To contact Recreation Director Lori Dent, residents should now call 201652-2747 or email mprec@optonline.net. All program information, registration forms and town events are posted on the town website at www.mpnj.com under Parks and Recreation. The DePhillips Community Center office hours are 9:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday – Thursday unless otherwise posted. An evening supervisor opens the center for pickup basketball games or ping pong and organized activities, Monday – Saturday evenings from 6 - 9 p.m. during the school calendar year. The DePhillips Center has been put to good use since it first opened its doors on June 23. The newly refurbished and expanded facility was able to serve over 200 children a week in the town’s popular summer camp recreation program. The new air conditioned gym, community room, and game rooms were a welcome escape for the children on those sweltering 100- degree days during camp. The new kitchen brought new meaning to snack time to those A Publication of the Midland Park Chamber of Commerce Use of new DePhillips Center in full swing children participating in the extended day program when counselors and campers were able to cook up some special treats. The kitchen was put to immediate use during football season and is also being used for the year-round recreation cooking classes. The Recreation Theater program, which has had to practice at the firehouse or the library for the past six years, can now be held under one roof at the DePhillips Center. This volunteer-run program, directed by Katie Reynaldo this year, has become so large, the entire building is used for practices. In addition to some of the current on-site programs such as the pre-school, games galore, vacation break and cooking programs, the Recreation Department is looking to expand its offerings this year to residents of all ages. The finishing touch to the DePhillips Center will be the installation of an elevator, expected to be in place by late. Director Dent is currently looking for residents interested in playing in a bridge or canasta group during weekdays. Anyone interested is asked to contact the recreation department. Family nights, fitness programs and adult Karaoke evenings are also in the works. All program information is always posted on the recreation website and published in the press release sections of The Villadom and Suburban News. Flyers are also distributed through all Midland Park Schools. “Thanks to Mr. Bolger’s generosity and vision, our Mayor and Council, The Board of Recreation, The Friends of Recreation and the many generous donations received from our residents, we now have a community center where residents of all ages can gather with their families and friends to enjoy our recreational programs,” Dent said. She urges anyone with program ideas to contact her at the above number or email address.
