January 14, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 17 Waldwick Watch Military Bridge at Traphagen The Traphagen Parent School Organization will be holding its Eleventh Annual Evening of Military Bridge on Friday, Feb. 6. The evening of tournament cards, combined with an auction, will be the biggest fundraising event of the year. Proceeds will be used to benefit and support the students and teachers of Julia A. Traphagen Elementary School in Waldwick. Monies will be allocated to the special needs of the school and the children, such as new playground equipment, technological materials to aid learning, programs that enhance everyday education, and activities. The group welcomes donations of auction items and door prizes, and monetary contributions. A member of the Traphagen PSO is available to stop by for donations. The PSO encourages members to support those who help us when we ask. Pet licenses now available January is dog license renewal month. Owners whose pet’s rabies inoculation is valid through at least October of this year may renew by mail by downloading the application at the Waldwick website. The fee is $13.50 for spayed dogs and $16.50 for unspayed dogs when renewing by mail. Renew in person during regular office hours, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays. Bring or mail any updated rabies inoculation information. Register for baseball & softball The Waldwick Baseball/Softball Association late mailin registration deadline for the 2009 season is Jan. 15. Mail the registration form with payment for child or children to the P.O. Box listed on the registration form. Classic film screenings at library The Waldwick Public Library hosts screenings of classic films on Thursdays at 2 p.m. A brief introduction, setting the film in its historical context, will precede each screening. The schedule of screenings for the month of January is as follows: Jan. 15, “Rebel without a Cause;” Jan. 22, “Double Indemnity;” and Jan. 29, “Dead Ringer.” Registration for the Classic Film Series is not necessary; however arrival before 2 p.m. is encouraged. School to hold Open House The Village School, located at 100 West Prospect Street in Waldwick, will hold an Open House on Thursday, Jan.15 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Those interested in learning more about the toddler through middle school programs for the 2009-10 school year are encouraged to attend. Parents will have the opportunity to visit the classroom and meet with the faculty and staff, and learn more about The Village School and the benefits of a Montessori education. Established in 1977, the school educates students from the toddler years through the eighth grade. The Village School is accredited by the American Montessori Society, the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools. Children’s programs offered at library The Waldwick Public Library is offering programs for children of all age groups. The Infant Class, for children ages 6 weeks to approximately 12 months will meet on Wednesdays at 11:15 a.m. for baby exercise, music, and first exposure to reading readiness. Babytime Class, for one-year-olds is a time for free play, early socialization skills, finger-plays, songs, and beginning books. The Arts N’ Crafts program is offered for ages seven and up once a month during the school year, and weekly during the summer. Participants must sign up each month. The group meets Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. Registration is required for all programs except Storytime. These children’s programs are open to Waldwick residents only. ESL group meets at library The ESL conversation group that meets weekly at the Waldwick Public Library has resumed meeting at 10:15 a.m. on Mondays. Registration is taken at the library throughout the year. In an expansion of its ESL program, the library will hold an ESL basic class that will meet weekly on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The ESL conversation group and ESL basic class are free and open to adults who want assistance learning and speaking English.
