On March 8 there will be a brunch at the Luxe Café followed by a movie at the AMC Theatres, (201) 291-8468 at the Garden State Plaza in Paramus. On April 19 the group will meet for a tour of the Cloisters located in Fort Tyron Park, NY, (212) 923-3700. Check the website www.churchofpresentation. org for exact details and times. For those who like to hike or bike there are several excursions planned. Hiking dates are March 15, April 26, and May 17. The bike trip will involve a tour of Sandy Hook on Sunday, May 3. Foundation recognizes Blake The Upper Saddle River Education Foundation will host Town Night Out on Friday, March 6 at the Estate at Florentine Gardens in River Vale. This year’s fundraiser will include a posthumous honor, the Award for Educational Excellence, for Coach Mike Blake. There will be no assigned seating this year, so requests are not required. The event will feature an open bar, cocktail hour, an international buffet, Viennese table, and entertainment. Tickets are $115 per person. Edible Book Contest at the library The Upper Saddle River Library is hosting the Edible Book Contest on March 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The rules for this contest are simple: Create something that is edible and book related. Do the titles “How to Eat Fried Worms,” “Give a Mouse a Cupcake,” or “The Scarlet Letter” conjure up ideas for edible art? Entries should be dropped off from 10 to 11 a.m. at the library, 245 Lake Street in Upper Saddle River, on March 7. The contest is open to all ages. Ribbons will be awarded in different age categories including family, adult and children for most creative, best fiction, best non-fiction, best children’s book, and public’s favorite. Novels at Night The monthly book club, Novels at Night, will meet on March 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the Upper Saddle River Library. “Not Me,” by Michael Lavigne, will be the book for discussion. Library Friends plan sale The Friends of the Upper Saddle River Library will host a Saturday Book Sale on March 7 from 10 a. m. to 1 p.m. The sale will be held downstairs in the library bookroom. The library is located at 245 Lake Street. Yoga classes offered Get in shape mentally and physically with Jennifer Cece, BA, MM and RYT, certified yoga instructor. A multi-level class will be held every Tuesday morning at 9:45 a.m. At 11 a.m., Cece will lead a brand new seniors’ class called Gentle Stretch Yoga. Classes will run approximately one hour. Registration is required. Cece’s classes are designed to develop strength, coordination, and flexibility, and to relieve stress and anxiety and sharpen mental focus. Enrollment is limited. Soccer registration planned The Ho-Ho-Kus/Saddle River Soccer Association will hold fall 2009 soccer season in-person registration for all HHK/SR children entering grades one through 12 as of September 2009. Registration will be held March 7 and 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Ho-Ho-Kus Public School on Lloyd Road, Ho-Ho-Kus. Three programs are being offered. An instructional program, for grades one and two, will be held on Saturday mornings from mid-September until mid-November. A recreational program, for grades three through eight, will have practice on weekdays and games on weekends. The newly introduced Co-ed Division 2, for grades nine through 12, will practice Friday with games Sunday afternoon. Wandell School Pre-K offers new options The Wandell School will be offering two new preschool options in September 2009. The four-year-old class will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The three-year-old program will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon with the option of extended days one or two days per week. Tuition for the four-year-old program will be $8,000. Tuition for the three-year-old program will be $4,000, with tuition of $4,800 with one extended day and $5,600 with two extended days: Tuesday and/or Wednesday until 2 p.m. The Wandell School preschool curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Learning. The program encompasses many areas of development including, social, physical, cognitive, and language. Parents are welcome to visit the program with their child. Children must be three or four respectively for the three- or four-year-old program by Oct. 1, 2009 and must be toilet trained. The program is open to out-of-town residents.
