Waldwick February 18, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 7 The Waldwick Borough Council last week approved a resolution that will pave the way for an energy audit for the borough’s department of public works and public safety buildings. The council’s approval to allow Steven Winter Associates to conduct the audit is contingent upon approval from the State of New Jersey. The audit is a first step in trying to reduce energy costs officials said. Pending the state’s approval, Steven Winter Associates will handle the audit, even though the consultant’s fee would be $168 higher than the other firm submitting a proposal. Steven Winter Associates offers “more rigorous energy savings analysis,” according to the resolution awarding the Energy audit gets council’s nod; state approval awaited contract. Steven Winter bid $15,075, and Clough Harbour & Associates bid $14,907. In recommending the council accept the higher bid at a previous council work session, Councilman Frank Palladino noted that Steven Winter has “a plethora of experience and other jobs.” He added, “Their resume is quite impressive, and they also do computer modeling. For an extra $180, we should go with them.” Both firms are on the list of consultants pre-qualified by the state, according to Waldwick Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. The borough is applying for a grant that would cover 75 percent of the cost of this project. The borough’s obligation would be 25 percent. Grants for this project are available through the New On Feb. 12, the Waldwick Police Department received a report of a large amount of garbage on fire on East Prospect Street. The caller also gave a description of the actor he saw light the fire and then continue walking down East Prospect Street. Officers responded and arrested a 23-year-old man Volunteer fireman arrested for arson Jersey Clean Energy Program, which includes the Local Government Energy Audit Program. According to the NJ Clean Energy Program website, the local audit program targets municipal and local government owned facilities, including offices, courtrooms, town halls, police and fire stations, sanitation buildings, transportation structures, schools, and community centers. In order to be eligible, the municipality must be located within the service territory of at least one of New Jersey’s public utilities. The website further stipulates that the government agencies must pass a resolution enabling the submission of an application. The municipality then selects from a list of pre-qualified auditing firms, and the program subsidizes 75 percent of the audit cost. After the audit is complete, the municipality has a list of recommendations for cost-effective energy efficiency (continued on page 22) and charged him with arson.
