Upper Saddle River February 4, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 5 Borough youth to attend HOBY Leadership Seminar Upper Saddle River resident Jeffrey Warnock, a sophomore at Bergen Catholic High School, has been chosen to represent the school at the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar. Warnock, who will attend the HOBY seminar later this spring, was selected by a panel of faculty members from a pool of worthy sophomore candidates. An outstanding student who is a perennial member of the Principal’s List (which indicates an academic average of 95 or better), Warnock is a member of the school’s Jazz Ensemble and the lacrosse and wrestling teams. He is also an Eagle Scout, the highest possible honor a Boy Scout can achieve. The mission of HOBY is to seek out, recognize, and develop leadership potential in young high school students. HOBY fulfills its purpose through a series of unique programs during which students are introduced to distinguished leaders of the community from various sectors of society (such as business, technology, education, government, arts, and science). HOBY participants will get a realistic look at their nation, its people, and their own role in the world community. HOBY Leadership Seminars are designed to teach students to think critically, to enhance their leadership skills, to learn more about free enterprise, and to discover that they are not alone in their desire to lead. This widely-acclaimed program began in 1958, when actor Hugh O’Brian decided to make a contribution to society by establishing HOBY to cultivate and enhance leadership characteristics among America’s high Jeffrey Warnock school students. For the first 10 years of the program, the seminars were held in the Los Angeles area. Eventually, the program expanded and grew into what it is today: a worldwide program that involves more than 14,000 public and private school students.
