The contract would follow the completion of an energy audit prepared by PSE&G which determined that the borough could save more than $4,000 a year with the upgrades. The free audit, part of the utility’s energy efficiency economic stimulus initiative funded with federal moneys, was commissioned by the council in September to get in on the ground floor of the offer before the $25 million allocated to the program was depleted. PSE&G will update the lighting fixtures inside and outside the building with advanced highly efficient technology products that provide more capability using less electricity. The program covers 100 percent of the cost of the improvements up front. Upon completion of the work, the borough will repay 20 percent of the total cost out of the savings realized from the upgrades, interest free. . The retrofitting would cost $32,000. “It’s a way of saving dollars and reducing the carbon footprint at the same time,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. “With the anticipated savings, the payback to the borough would be in less than two years,” he added. Kratz said that PSE&G looked at all the borough-owned buildings but determined that there would be no real savings from retrofitting the other buildings. “The other buildings are relatively new and are already high efficiency. The public works building is 20 years old and still has fixtures from when it was constructed,” Kratz explained. Summer camp for Waldwick children will be held at either HCA Park or Crescent School next year. The customary third location, Traphagen School, will not be available due to anticipated construction at that site. “We’re working on the logistics,” said Borough Administrator Gary Kratz. “We’ll have adjustments in staffing based on Summer camp will be at two sites the volume of kids at each location,” he added. About 400 children participate each summer. Kratz said that he anticipates no problems as a result of the adjustment, noting that a similar situation occurred a couple of years ago when Crescent School’s roof was being replaced.
