Special services planned The Ridgewood Christian Reformed Church, 271 Lincoln Avenue, will celebrate the season on Sunday, Dec. 20, with a special 5 p.m. candlelight service of traditional scripture lessons, singing of favorite carols, choir anthems, and a dramatization of the story of Christ’s birth by the Sunday school children. A light supper will follow. All are welcome. The church will hold a worship service on Christmas Day at 10 a.m. For more information call (201) 445-1832. Celebrate at MPCRC Midland Park Christian Reformed Church, 183 Godwin Avenue, Midland Park, will hold a Candlelight Service on Sunday, Dec. 20 at 6 p.m. On Christmas Day, Dec. 25, there will be a 10 a.m. worship service. For New Year’s Eve, there will be a Communion Service at 6 p.m. Midland Park Christian Reformed Church is wheelchair accessible, and nurseries are provided at all services. For more information, contact the church at (201) 445-4260. Torah discussion offered at temple Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will present its monthly “Nosh and Drash” on Saturday, Dec. 19. Services will begin at 9 a.m. Following the 10 a.m. service, participants will have breakfast and a communal Torah study. Bob Smolen will lead a study and discussion of Parashat Mi’Ketz, exploring Joseph’s experiences in and out of jail and his dream interpretation through art. Attendees will view paintings and etchings by various artists, including Rembrandt, Carlo Cignani, Philipp Veit, Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, James Jacques Joseph Tissot, Andrea Del Sarto, Van Leyden Lucas, Nicolas Beatrizet, and Peter von Cornelius. Discussion participants will seek to interpret Parashat Mi’Ketz in light of the messages the artists convey. Services will resume at 11 a.m. All are invited. Located at 475 Grove Street in Ridgewood, Temple Israel and JCC is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue with
members from over a dozen Bergen County communities. Christmas Eve services planned The Ridgewood United Methodist Church, 100 Dayton Street, will offer three services on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, beginning with a 4 p.m. children’s service. Holy Cross Church offers Christmas services Holy Cross, located at 125 Glasgow Terrace in Mahwah, has planned two services for Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. The family service is planned for 5:30 p.m. The traditional Christmas service will be held at 10 p.m. Holy Communion will be offered at both services. Nativity sets Christmas services The Church of the Nativity, 315 Prospect Street, Midland Park, is offering five services on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24. The Children’s Family Liturgy for families with small children only will be at 4 p.m. The Mass for the Differently-abled will be at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m. and 10:30 p.m., there will be Eucharistic liturgies. The choir and congregation will sing Christmas carols at the 9:30 p.m. service. There will be two Eucharistic liturgies at 10:30 a.m. and noon on Christmas Day. A New Year’s Eve service will be celebrated on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m. The community is also invited to start the New Year with a 10:30 a.m. service on Jan. 1. Contact the church at (201) 444-6362.
At Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church (OPRC), all are invited to join in the joy of the Christmas season. Special events began on Dec. 2 when an Advent/Christmas message was portrayed in art, music and readings. United Methodist Pastor Rev.Matthew Labriola created a large pastel-chalk Nativity scene as he was accompanied by readers and a choral ensemble.
