Our hat’s off to the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in Ramsey and to the Wyckoff Senior Citizens for their recent food donations. Speaking of help: We need a driver to deliver food once a month to a family in Chester. So far, the usual excitement and attention the community devotes to contributing holiday dinners and gifts for the kids has been on the low side. I am hoping that this picks up, because it has never been an issue. The children of Emmanuel Cancer have given us their wish list for a holiday gift. You can consider the December EmmanuelHelp3x.75(4-29-09) Holiday Dinner as a giving idea. If you are 3 x .75 simply buy a gift card at your in a hurry, local chain grocery store. Figure out what it would cost to buy all the groceries (including the turkey or ham) for a family of six. The amount of the card could be anywhere from $40 to $60 for the basics, or higher if you add in any extra things. You can put together a basket, bag, or box of non-perishable items that a family can use to create a holiday meal. Suggested items include stuffing, turkey gravy or gravy master, canned yams, a disposable turkey pan, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, canned pumpkin, pie filling, pie crust, yams, potatoes, onions, coffee and tea, cake mix and icing, pancake mix and syrup (for breakfast, of course!) and a chain grocery store gift certificate for a turkey and other fresh items. You can augment the dinner with a frozen turkey. Call us and we’ll give you a family. All you need to do is assemble the foods and drop them off here at the Midland Park office. We will deliver it to them in time for the Holiday. We now need office volunteers at the following times: Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 1 to 5 p.m.; Thursday, 2:30 to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call (201) 612-8118 before you stop by. Please do not leave items at the center without checking with us first. Our storage space is limited.
