Obituaries
James Fagan Bourland of Saddle River died Nov. 28. He was 94. He was senior vice president and director of American Cyanamid Corp. in Wayne, and chairman of the board of trustees of Hartwick College. He was a member of the Tuxedo Club in New York and the Community Church at Upper Ridgewood. He is survived by his wife Kathryn of Park Ridge, and his children Glen and Lillian Bourland. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Memorial donations may be made to the Valley Hospital Foundation 223 North Van Dien Avenue, Ridgewood, NJ 07450. Carmelita P. Garofalini, nee Protiso, of Waldwick died Nov. 30. She was 85. She was an administrative secretary for the Township of Mahwah. She was a parishioner of Saint Luke’s RC Church in Ho-Ho-Kus, and a member of the Senior Citizens of Waldwick. She is survived by her son Stephen H. of Stockton, four grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and her sister Mary Dittamo of Waldwick. She was predeceased by her husband Henry, her son Raymond, and her sister Helen Hartman. Arrangements were made by Feeney Funeral Home in Ridgewood. She was a beautician in the Bergen County area for many years. She is survived by her children Jeffrey F. Hartman of Oakland and Jill E. Hartman of Upper Saddle River, and her sister Mary Dittamo and her recently deceased sister Carmelita Garofalini. She was predeceased by her husband Franklin Holt Hartman. She was a member of The Ho-Ho-Kus Book Club, The Ho-Ho-Kus Woman’s Club, and a member of The Bergen County Board of Elections. She is survived by her sons Thomas R. Hobbis III of Chatham, and Christian E. Hobbis of Butler, three grandchildren, and her sister Gabriele Jeppe of Maryland. She was predeceased by her husband Thomas R. Hobbis Jr. and her sister Karla Rapisarda. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Alice Little of Franklin Lakes died Nov. 27. She was 80. Before retiring in 1990, she was a registered nurse at Wiersma Nursing Home of Allendale for 20 years. She was a parishioner of Saint Elizabeth’s R.C. Church of Wyckoff. She is survived by her sons Kevin of Omaha, Nebraska, Scott of Austin, Texas, and Mark of Toms River, and six grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Douglas W. Little. Arrangements were made by Vander Plaat Funeral Home in Wyckoff. She was 89. She is survived by her children Linda Kakos, Raymond La Cour, Paul La Cour, and Peter La Cour, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was 75. He had been executive vice president of labor relations and personnel with NBC. In the last 10 years he was a consultant for financial companies in New York. He was a member of Ridgewood Country Club and Jonathan’s Landing in Jupiter, Florida. He was a parishioner of the Church of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Franklin Lakes. He is survived by his wife Jeanie, his children Donna O’Donnell of Randolph, Eugene Jr. of Wantage, Rick of Wyckoff, and Annie McGuire of Westwood, Massachusetts, 11 grandchildren, four brothers and seven sisters. She was 84. She was a long-time member of Archer United Methodist Church and the XYZ Seniors Club. She is survived by her son Gary W. Mohan of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her husband Donald S. Mohan Sr. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Gertrude E. Wostbrock Neill of Midland Park died Dec. 2. She was 99. She was part owner of Wostbrock Embroidery, where she worked six days a week up until three months ago. She was a charter member of the Church of Nativity in Midland Park and a member of the Rosary Society. She was the membership chairman of the original Midland Park Senior Citizens Group for more than 10

years. She is survived by her daughter Jean M. Holden of Littleton, Massachusetts, Henry “Bud” Wostbrock of Midland Park, and William W. Wostbrock Largo, Florida, 15 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband Henry J. Wostbrock and her second husband John Neill. She was a secretary at the Cavallini Middle School Library in Upper Saddle River. She was an active member on the board of directors at the Saddle River Valley Swim and Tennis Club and the Heathermoor II Condominium Association. She is survived by her husband Everest, her children Kevin Perusini of Oakland, and Karen La Bozetta of Fair Lawn, one granddaughter, and her twin sister Betty Krivda. John “Jack” M. Roth of Ridgewood died on Nov. 30. He was 70. He was an employee at Unilever USA for 45 years. He is survived by his wife Carol J. Roth, his children Laura L. Thompson of Oakland, Dr. J. Scott Roth of Lexington, Kentucky, and Geoffrey N. Roth of Annapolis, Maryland, and nine grandchildren. Arrangements were made by C.C. Van Emburgh Funeral Home in Ridgewood. Mark Anthony Ryan of Ramsey died Nov. 23. He was 85. He was a U.S. Army Air Force veteran of WWII. Before retiring in 1991, he was a senior administrator and manager in the Guidance Systems Division at Bendix where he worked for 48 years. He is survived by his wife Ann Gantner Ryan, and his children Elizabeth Ann Ryan of Mahwah, and Christine Ryan Murphy of Ramsey, two grandchildren, and his sisters, Ruth Ann Kiney of Winterville, Georgia and Carol Barry of West Dover, Vermont. He was predeceased by his son Mark Michael, and his sister Veronica Riedel. Arrangements were made by Van Emburgh-Sneider-Pernice Funeral Home in Ramsey. Herbert Schneider of Ramsey died Nov. 24. He was 99. He served as pastor for six years at the Reformed Church in Linden and 32 years at the Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church in Ho-Ho-Kus. He is survived by his wife Jeanette Schneider and his children, Suzanne Klodowski, Linda Fogel, Grant Schneider, seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
