Flu & pneumonia vaccines available The Valley Hospital Department of Community Health along with the Ridgewood and Ho-Ho-Kus Board of Health will be offering flu and pneumonia vaccines to all residents over 65 years of age. Vaccines will be given from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Oct. 1 at the senior lounge in Ridgewood Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. Registration is required; call (201) 291-6090. Flu and pneumonia vaccines are covered by traditional Medicare Part B. Recipients must present their card at the time of service. Those in an HMO may choose to go to their primary care provider or they can choose to pay $27 for a flu vaccination. Pneumonia vaccines will be available for those who have never had a previous pneumonia vaccination. The cost is $35. Flu shots are encouraged for those aged 65 and over and those with chronic illnesses. Ramapo announces Dean’s List Ramapo College of New Jersey in Mahwah has named the following HoHo-Kus students to the Dean’s List for the spring 2009 semester: Brittany K. Hamernick, Marc S. Schauer, Emilie R. Schwartz. Panfile to entertain seniors The Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors will host singer Domenick Panfile on Aug. 25. Panfile, a June graduate of Dumont High School, began his singing career in the fifth grade at the John Harms Theater. He has sung the national anthem at many town and school events and performs for the New Jersey Jackals and the Newark Bears. He is actively involved in church choirs and charitable events for the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, Homes for the Troops, and others. His diverse repertoire includes opera, Broadway, contemporary, and rock. The past few summers, he has attended Opera Camp at Caldwell College, performing varied roles and singing opera in several languages. This fall, Panfile will attend Montclair State University’s John J. Cali School of Music, where he will study music education and voice. Ho-Ho-Kus Seniors meet the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month at the education center of the Hermitage. Beverages and dessert are served at noon, and programs begin at 1 p.m. Residents age 55 and over are welcome to attend. Library accepts exhibits The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library invites local artists, collectors or area residents with interesting collections to contact the library if they would be interested in displaying their collections at the library located at 91 Warren Avenue. Ho-Kus is on sale now. The local edition will look much like its popular board game inspiration, but instead of the familiar Atlantic City streets, will refer to Ho-HoKus properties and people. The game cost $25. Games can be purchased from The Community Church located at 400 Warren Avenue in Ho-HoKus. Call (201) 445-6310. Library aids homebound The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus provides a delivery service for the elderly, homebound, or sick. A resident will be delivering books to borough residents on the first or third Thursday afternoon of each month. Books will be delivered after 2 p.m. Residents can decide which day they would like delivery. To receive books at home, call the library on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before delivery. A librarian will take name, address, phone number and book requests. Participants must have a current library card. The staff will assist residents in applying for one. Book requests will be filled as best as possible with the understanding that new and popular books may not be available
when first requested. Delivery is one Thursday per month only. Requests must be made during library hours. Messages left on the answering machine will not be filled. There will be no late fees for overdue books with this service. Call (201) 445-8078. Library hours are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday from 1 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. The Worth Pinkham Memorial Library is located at 91 Warren Avenue in Ho-Ho-Kus. VFW welcomes new members The Ho-Ho-Kus VFW, which serves Ho-Ho-Kus and Ridgewood, welcomes new members. The group meets on the second Wednesday of every month at 7:30 p.m. at the Post Home, 620 Cliff Street, HoHo-Kus. For additional information, call (201) 445-1121.
