The cost is $75 and includes golf, cart, lunch, prizes, after golf refreshments and a donation to the Lions Club campaign to fight blindness. Prizes will be awarded to the three lowest scores, longest drive, longest drive over 65 years of age, woman’s longest drive, nearest to the line, nearest to the hole on all four par three holes and lowest score for return of the “yellow ball” with a foursome. Library sponsors ESL program As a member of the Literacy Volunteers of Pascack Valley, the Upper Saddle River Library offers an ongoing ESL (English as a Second Language) Program. These free sessions provide instruction for area adults. Local residents, who are specially trained tutors, teach foreign-born adults on a one-to-one basis to speak, read, and write English. All groups meet at the library at prearranged times. Applications and information can be obtained at the library circulation desk. Anyone who wishes to volunteer as a tutor can contact Rosemarie Manganaro, ESL manager. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the USR Library. The library is at 245 Lake Street, Upper Saddle River. Lions Club recycles eyeglasses For more than 60 years, Lions clubs have been collecting used eyeglasses for recycling. Donated glasses are either given to support local eyeglass recycling efforts or shipped to one of seven official Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centers. The Saddle River Valley Lions Club has placed “eyeglass collection boxes” through the club area. White boxes with the Lions logo can be found at the following locations: Allendale: Northern Highlands Regional High School; Mahwah: Fleet Banks, Route 17 South and center of town, Town Hall, Library; Ramsey: Town Hall, Library, Ramsey High School; Saddle River: Hardware Store, Fleet Bank; Upper Saddle River: Library, Elmer’s. Free health consultations offered The Valley Hospital Community Health Department in conjunction with the Saddle River Board of Health will continue to conduct free adult health consultations for Saddle River residents on the first Wednesday of each month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at its new location of 10 Wolf Run, Saddle River. The sessions consist of blood pressure, pulse, and weight monitoring. Information including such health concerns as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, and a review of medications will also be discussed. All services are provided by a registered nurse. Anyone 18 years of age or older may take advantage of these clinics. No appointment is necessary.
