The club welcomes all guests, prospective members, and new and old members to this friendly gathering. The event will begin the club’s 2009-10 year and mark its 80th anniversary as a community organization. Meet new friends and reconnect with old friends. University announces Dean’s List The University of Delaware in Newark, Delaware has named the following Ho-Ho-Kus students to its Dean’s List for the spring 2009 semester: Sarah Elizabeth Gelotte, a sophomore English major in the College of Arts and Sciences; and John Joseph McCarthy, a junior marketing and operations management major in the College of Business and Economics. To be placed on the Dean’s List a student must have a grade point average of 3.33 or above for the semester. Vacation Bible School set Ho-Ho-Kus Community Church is holding Vacation Bible School Aug. 17 through 21 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Children will participate in a hands-on mission project, Operation Kid-to-Kid™ that involves millions of other children across North America. Local phone directory available The Woman’s Club of Ho-Ho-Kus has phone directories of the town available for sale. They can be purchased at borough hall, located at 333 Warren Avenue, for $5 each. All proceeds will support the club’s philanthropic programs, including the scholarship fund for local students. Volunteers wanted for local boards Ho-Ho-Kus residents who are interested in serving on one of the borough’s volunteer boards may contact Joanne McDonald at borough hall, (201) 652-4400. Openings occur at various times on various boards, including the planning board, zoning board of adjustment, and board of health. Sewing group to meet The sewing group that is held at the Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library now meets the first Thursday of each month. Library service for homebound or sick available The Worth-Pinkham Memorial Library in Ho-Ho-Kus provides a delivery service for the elderly, homebound, or sick. A resident will be delivering books to borough residents on the first or third Thursday afternoon of each month. Books will be delivered after 2 p.m. Residents can decide which day they would like delivery. To receive books at home, call the library on the Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday before delivery. A librarian will take name, address, phone number and book requests. Participants must have a current library card. The staff will assist residents in applying for one. Book requests will be filled as best as possible with the understanding that new and popular books may not be available when first requested. Delivery is one Thursday per month only. Requests must be made during library hours. Messages left on the answering machine will not be filled. There will be no late fees for overdue books with this service. Call (201) 445-8078. Volunteer Office Cookbook available “Treasures from Ho-Ho-Kus,” a revised version of the “Ho-Ho-Kus Hostesses” (1975) is now available from the Contemporary Club for $20. This cookbook contains favorite recipes from residents, U.S. presidents, the Ho-Ho-Kus Inn, and the Hermitage. Proceeds from this year will go to The Community Church of Ho-Ho-Kus.
