Page 6 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • August 5, 2009 Allendale Board of education changes autumn assignments by John Koster Students who return to Allendale’s K-8 school system in September will find some familiar faces in new roles in the district’s Hillside and Brookside schools. A number of job reassignments were approved for the 2009-10 school year upon the recommendation of the superintendent. The Hillside School has made only a few adjustments while the Brookside School has made numerous changes. Hillside School’s Shannon Rutowski was a part-time kindergarten teacher, but will now be a full-time first grade teacher. The sixth grade Spanish teacher, Kelly Goodwin, will now teach Spanish not only at Hillside but also at Brookside. Goodwin will also teach English as a Second Language at both schools. Cassandra Minicucci was on maternity leave last year, and will now be returning to teach basic skills instruction. Tracy Lewis, the former ESL teacher, will teach the second grade. Hillside also welcomes new staff member Scott Burns as the primary selfcontained teacher. Brookside School staff members Ann LoCascio, E. Sarita Cook-Kelty, Marge Loew, Dorothy Fox, Ken Brown, Scott Burns, Allison Faasse, and Kimberly O’Brien will all have new placements. LoCascio, who taught middle school math, will now be teaching sixth grade math. Cook-Kelty, who taught elementary Spanish, will now teach the sixth grade Spanish along with Kelly Goodwin. Loew and Fox will be the new teachers for the seventh and eighth grade resource room. Brown, who was the physical education teacher at Brookside, will join Burns in teaching physical education at both Brookside and Hillside. Faasse will teach sixth and eighth grade math part-time. O’Brien will now teach seventh and eighth grade language arts basic skills instruction along with the sixth and seventh grade language arts classes. Kelly Termini will be absent for the 2009-2010 school year on maternity leave. PSE&G recently met with the Allendale Borough Council regarding the utility company’s plans to replace the main gas line on West Allendale Avenue. Work is scheduled for the week of Aug. 3 through 7. The hours of construction will run from 4 p.m. to midnight. These hours were chosen to allow for the project to progress with a reduced amount of disturbance to the West Allendale Avenue gas line to be replaced local businesses and to allow better traffic control. During construction hours, there will be partial closure of West Allendale Avenue, primarily on the south side of the street, which is where the gas main is located. The group provides a venue for peer support, networking, and practical job search resources. Opening Doors will provide resources for those who seek a communal face-to-face setting, and for those who would prefer to access them from home. Weekly meetings are held on Wednesday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Highlands Presbyterian Church, at 270 Franklin Turnpike. All are welcome. On-site WiFi will be available, and representatives from the business community and the Allendale clergy will be on hand at each meeting.
