Students receive Dean’s List honors Yasmin M. El Khashab and Paige D. Sydoruk, both of Upper Saddle River, have been named to the Dean’s Lists at their respective universities for the spring 2009 semester. El Khashab is a student at Boston University in Boston, Massachusetts. Sydoruk is a sophomore studying elementary education at Rowan University in Glassboro. Presentation plans events for singles The Church of the Presentation has events planned for single in the month of August. Gently used books suitable for pre-school through eighth grade readers are needed. Residents are asked the books be put aside until September when a drop off site will be announced. Tennis permits available for 2009 Tennis permits for the use of the Upper Saddle River tennis courts on West Saddle River Road will be available at borough hall. Lions plan Golf Outing The Saddle River Valley Lions Club is sponsoring its annual Golf Outing on Thursday, Sept. 17 at the Apple Greens Golf Club in Highlands, New York. The cost is $75 and includes golf, cart, lunch, prizes, after golf refreshments and a donation to the Lions Club campaign to fight blindness. Prizes will be awarded to the three lowest scores, longest drive, longest drive over 65 years of age, woman’s longest drive, nearest to the line, nearest to the hole on all four par three holes and lowest score for return of the “yellow ball” with a foursome. Wandell School Pre-K offers new options The Wandell School will be offering two new preschool options in September 2009. The four-year-old class will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2:40 p.m. The three-year-old program will meet Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon with the option of extended days one or two days per week. Tuition for the four-year-old program will be $8,000. Tuition for the three-yearold program will be $4,000, with tuition of $4,800 with one extended day and $5,600 with two extended days: Tuesday and/or Wednesday until 2 p.m. The Wandell School preschool curriculum is aligned with the New Jersey Department of Education Preschool Teaching and Learning Expectations: Standards of Learning. The program encompasses many areas of development including, social, physical, cognitive, and language. Parents are welcome to visit the program with their child. Children must be three or four respectively for the three- or four-yearold program by Oct. 1, 2009 and must be toilet trained. The program is open to outof-town residents. Bereavement support group forming The Church of the Presentation in Upper Saddle River is offering a bereavement support group that is open to the public. There will be eight sessions over eight weeks with trained facilitators. Topics include family systems, family changes, elements of grief, loneliness, anger, guilt, and inner healing.
