Waldwick April 29, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 11 Borough of Waldwick Police Department Report On March 24, an Ackerman Avenue resident reported that a bicycle was stolen from the backyard. The bicycle was a blue Haro F4. The incident is under investigation. The same day, a New Jersey Transit Train conductor reported that he observed an individual spray painting graffiti under the Wyckoff Avenue Bridge. After conducting an investigation, Officer Frank Paccione arrested a 19-year-old Ridgewood resident for criminal mischief with damage. The man was processed and released pending a court date in municipal court. On March 26, Sprint PCS contacted police and asked an officer to respond to the company’s cell tower. Upon arrival, Officer Troy Seifert was advised that $2,500 worth of copper had been stolen from the cell tower site. Detective Sergeant Kevin Smith is investigating the theft. Officer Paccione arrested a 16-year-old Waldwick resident for criminal mischief on March 27. The juvenile was arrested after Paccione observed him spray painting graffiti underneath the Wyckoff Avenue Bridge. On March 28, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accidenton Route 17. Officers determined that a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed into a wooded area. Officer John Greco arrested the driver, a 22-year-old Point Pleasant resident for driving while intoxicated. Following field sobriety tests, the man was transported to headquarters for processing. The driver was issued summonses for DWI and reckless driving. Also on March 28, an employee of Fitness Together on Hopper Avenue reported that someone had broken one of their windows. Officers responded and determined that a brick had been thrown through the window. The incident is still under investigation. On April 1, the assistant manager of Stop and Shop reported that there was an intoxicated male in the business causing a disturbance. Officer Garcia responded. After speaking with the individual, Garcia learned that the man had taken some merchandise from the store. Garcia arrested the 47-year-old Waldwick resident for shoplifting. The man was released pending a court date in municipal court. Officers responded to a call for a group of juveniles starting a fire in an underground parking lot on April 3. Officer Garcia determined that the fire was started when a juvenile doused a notebook with gasoline and set it on fire. Garcia arrested the responsible juvenile and charged him with arson and possession of prescription medication. On April 5, Officer Joseph D’Annibale arrested a 27-year-old Newburgh, New York man for DWI. The arrest was a result of a motor vehicle stop on Crescent Avenue. Following field sobriety tests, the man was transported to headquarters for processing. The driver was issued summonses for DWI and refusal to submit to the Alcotest. On April 19, Officer William Wright arrested a 41-year-old Waldwick man for DWI. The arrest was a result of a motor vehicle stop on West Prospect Street. Following field sobriety tests, the man was transported to headquarters for processing. The driver was issued summonses for DWI, reckless driving, and having an unregistered vehicle. District purchases defibrillators Waldwick’s school district recently replaced its four defibrillators with eight new devices, and has offered the use of the older equipment to the borough. A school official explained that the eight new defibrillators run on batteries that are less expensive than those used in their predecessors, and the newer batteries are rechargeable. The official pointed out that the older devices are still in good, useable condition. The eight new defibrillators will be distributed among the district’s school buildings, with two in each school. Several staff members have already been trained in the use of the defibrillators, which are used during a serious cardiac event. Fifteen staff members recently completed the training. The new defibrillators were purchased with funds provided in the school budget.
