Page 4 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • April 22, 2009 Waldwick All systems are go for the Waldwick Chamber of Commerce’s Second Annual 5K Run/1 Mile Walk this Sunday (rain or shine), with Chamber President Christine Figliuolo urging the community to treat the event with the same spirit they exhibit for a parade, including lining the Run’s route cheering on the runners and turning out at the high school field to partake of the morning’s festivities. “This event is an incredible example of the business community and neighborhood working together. Everyone I’ve Waldwick Run/Walk plans reach final stretch talk to is so excited about the Run because a successful event will only make our town better,” said Figliuolo. “Everyone always comments how tight-knit this community is. Although Waldwick is a relatively small town, we are packed with pride and dedicated citizens and business owners who truly care and want to see us shine,” she added. Registration for the April 26 event opens at 7:30 a.m. at the Waldwick High School lower turf field (Wyckoff and Hopper avenues), followed by opening ceremonies at 8:30 a.m. Soloist Patricia Wilson will sing the National Anthem. The Run gets underway at 9 a.m. from the intersection of West Prospect Street and Hopper Avenue, followed at 9:30 a.m. by the Walk. The course, which has been officially certified and sanctioned by the USATF, will take runners east on West Prospect to Wanamaker, right on Conklin for two blocks, left on Maple and back to West Prospect. It continues west on West Prospect to Smith Street, to Bohnert Place, right on Hopper, left on Alexander, left on Irving Place, right on Pennington, right on Pine to the turnaround before the Branagh Little League Field, where a water station will be set up. The route continues south, then right on to the path entrance by the playground, past the gazebo and along White’s Pond to Hopper, right onto Hopper, past the Waldwick Pool to West Prospect, right on Lakeview Drive past Veterans Park to Lindbergh Parkway to Brady Street, then left on Brady and left on West Prospect to the Waldwick High School field gate entrance and the finish line. Nearly 50 local businesses are sponsoring the run/walk. Many are offering prizes, providing food and drinks and services. There will be entertainment and activities for children, and the Boosters stand will be open. The field closes at 12 noon. Local organizations and residents as well as chamber members have stepped up to the plate to volunteer and make sure everything goes off smoothly. Volunteers should plan to arrive by 7 a.m. on race day. Please park in the pool parking lot. Proceeds from the 5K Run/Walk will go to the Waldwick Ambulance Corps; the Community Alliance, the organization that is restoring the Waldwick Train Station and surrounding neighborhood; and to other town beautification projects. Donations of canned food will also be accepted for the Emmanuel Cancer Foundation. Entry fees are $25 per person, $10 for the Fun Walk. The appointment is for one year. Warr Warr sworn in as fire lieutenant has served the department for 10 years.
