April 1, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES III • Page 19 Religious Notes Holy Week & Easter at Calvary Lutheran Calvary Lutheran Church welcomes the community to its worship services during Holy Week and Easter. On Palm Sunday, April 5, a festive service will be held at 10:45 a.m. which will include the Blessing of the Palms and Procession. On Maundy Thursday, April 9, a solemn service of Holy Communion will be offered at 7:30 p.m. The altar clothes will be removed and the sanctuary will be left bare of any adornments as a further preparation for Holy Week. On Good Friday, April 10, a Good Friday Children’s service will be offered at 10 a.m. At noon, Calvary will participate in the Allendale Community “Way of Christ’s Passion Devotional Walk,” which begins at Archer United Methodist Church. At 7:30 p.m. a Service of Tenebrae (“Shadows”) will be held that will include a dramatic reading of Jesus’ suffering and death on the cross. At 10 a.m., a Festive Service of Holy Communion will be offered. Special music will be offered by the senior and youth choirs. All who attend are encouraged to bring a long-stemmed flower of any variety to decorate the Easter Cross. Calvary is located at 165 West Crescent Avenue in Allendale. The facilities are completely accessible. Holy Cross announces services Holy Cross Lutheran Church will conclude its Lenten Series, “By His Stripes: A Study on Relationships with Each Other and Our Savior,” on April 5 with Palm Passion. At 10:15 a.m., there will be the Procession of the Palms, the Passion Reading and Holy Communion. Holy Week will continue with a Maundy Thursday service on April 9 at 7:30 p.m. At the end of the service, the church is laid bare waiting for the Good Friday reflection on April 10 at 7:30 p.m. Saturday is a day of fun for the children as the Sunday School of Holy Cross sponsors an Easter Egg Breakfast with the Easter Bunny in Fellowship Hall beginning at 9 a.m. followed by a puppet show at 9:45 a.m. and then an Easter Egg Hunt on the grounds of the church at 10 a.m. Tickets for the breakfast will be $10 for a family of four and $5 for each extra ticket. Call the church office for tickets. On Easter Sunday, Holy Cross has an Easter Sunrise Service at 7 a.m. followed by Easter breakfast for everyone at 8:30 a.m. The Easter Traditional Lutheran Resurrection Service starts at 10:15 a.m. with special music and Holy Communion. Presentation celebrates Lent The Church of the Presentation is offering a Lenten Mass schedule, Stations of the Cross, the Holy Week schedule, and other activities to which the public is invited. Stations of the Cross will be held on Fridays during Lent. Family Stations of the Cross will be on Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m.; a Stations of the Cross Bike Ride with Father Bob Stagg will be on Good Friday, April 10 at 9:30 a.m.; and Youth Ministry Living Stations of the Cross will be held on Good Friday, April 10 at 7:30 p.m. The First Friday Communion Breakfast, hosted by the Women’s Spirituality Ministry, will be on April 3, following 9 a.m. mass. Centering Prayer will be on April 4, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Rectory. Pardon & Peace will be held April 7, 7:30 p.m. On Palm Sunday, masses will take place at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 6:30 p.m. On Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Holy Saturday there will be prayer services at 9 a.m. Good Friday, the Celebration of the Lord’s Passion, will be on April 10 at 3 p.m. and Easter Vigil will be held on Saturday, April 11 at 8 p.m. Easter Sunday masses will be held at 7 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and 12:15 p.m. Masses at Don Bosco Prep’s auditorium will be at 10:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. The mass schedule during Lent will include services Monday through Friday at 9 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., Saturday at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Sunday at 7:30 a.m., 8:30 a.m., 10 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 6:30 p.m. The church is located at 271 West Saddle River Road in Saddle River. Palm Sunday procession planned Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold its annual Palm Sunday procession featuring Pebbles the Donkey on Sunday, April 5, at 9:30 a.m. Worship will begin at the church at 10 a.m. The service will include the “Reading of the Passion According to Saint Mark.” Palms will be distributed at the end of the service. Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church is located at 96 East Allendale Road in Saddle River. Holy Week celebration at Nativity The Church of the Nativity in Midland Park will celebrate Holy Week with several services. On Saturday, April 4 there will be the blessing and distribution of palms with the procession starting at 4:50 p.m. at the chapel. Eucharistic liturgies for Palm Sunday will be held at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and noon. Holy Thursday, April 9 will start with morning prayer at 8:30 in the chapel. The Feast of the Lord’s Supper will begin at 7:30 p.m. and Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will be from 9 p.m. to 8 a.m. in Chapel. On Good Friday, April 10, morning prayers in the chapel will be at 8:30 a.m. Family Stations of the Cross, held outside if weather permits, will begin at noon. The Liturgy of the Lord’s Passion and Death is at 3 p.m. and the Living Stations of the Cross will be at 7:30 p.m. in the church. On Holy Saturday, April 11, there will be morning prayers at 8:30 a.m. The Easter Vigil Mass will be held at 8:15 p.m. There will not be a 5 p.m. mass on Holy Saturday. Easter Sunday (April 12) liturgies will be at 8 a.m., 10:15 a.m., and noon.
