Ridgewood September 23, 2009 THE VILLADOM TIMES II • Page 5 Village council buys mobile command vehicle by John Koster The Ridgewood Village Council voted last week to buy a new command vehicle for emergency medical services at a cost of $145,065. The purchase was scaled down from what was originally projected as a $200,000 vehicle to coordinate emergency medical services. EMS Director Brian Pullman, also a sergeant on the Ridgewood Police Department, told Mayor David Pfund and members of the council, in the middle of the council work session of Sept. 9, that the present command vehicle is almost 20 years old and is completely outmoded. After speaking to administrators, Pullman said he had submitted specifications for the lowest cost vehicle that would serve the purposes of command and backup during emergencies. The approval of the purchase took place by resolution and without debate at the Sept. 16 public meeting. The council adopted an ordinance appropriating $111,600 for barrier-free curb cuts, and agreed by resolution to share bacterial analysis of water with a number of Northwest Bergen County communities including Allendale, Ho-Ho-Kus, Mahwah, and Waldwick, along with Fair Lawn and Hawthorne. The cost is $6.50 per analysis for each test sample. Residents of South Broad Street successfully petitioned the Ridgewood Village Council for a speed bump to deter motorists from traveling at excessive speeds on their street. On Sept. 10 at 3:08 a.m., the speed bump stopped one motorist the hard way. The police patrol responded to a report of a crash and found that a vehicle driven by Speed bump halts motorist a 27-year-old Ridgewood man had reportedly been traveling at a high rate of speed and had struck the traffic calming device.
