Chamber to host Fall Car Show The 16th Annual Fall Car Show sponsored by The Ridgewood Chamber of Commerce will be held on Friday, Sept. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. around Memorial Park at Van Neste Square. Stroll past many vintage automobiles while enjoying music. Middle school mixers set Middle school mixers offered by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, with sponsorship from GCADA (NJ Governor’s Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse), will give students an evening of dancing to music provided by DJ “Sound Illusions.” There will also be refreshments and games. Grade six will meet on Friday, Oct. 9; grade seven on Friday, Oct. 2; and grade eight on Friday, Oct. 16. The mixers are held at the Community Center from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission fee is $5. Ruggiero to present bear facts Michelle Ruggiero of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Division of Fish and Wildlife will present Know the Bear Facts on Oct. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Community Center in Ridgewood Village Hall. Learn about the natural history and biology of the Garden State’s grand residents, practical information about coexisting with bears, and tips on how to react if faced with a black bear. The program includes an audio/visual presentation, a question and answer period and a few show-and-tell items. Vari-

Mother/daughter evening scheduled A mother and daughter evening sponsored by the Ridgewood Department of Parks and Recreation and The Renfrew Center will be held Thursday, Oct. 15 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Girls in grades three through eight and their mothers are invited to attend this event, which will be led by Nancy Graham, LCSW of The Renfrew Center. Graham will discuss body image in the media. A salad bar dinner with fruits and dips for dessert will be served, encouraging a healthy attitude toward diet and making sensible choices about nutrition. A Zumba demonstration, led by dance instructor Nicole Kraft, will cap off the evening. The event will take place in the Youth Lounge of the Community Center at Village Hall, 131 North Maple Avenue. Registration can be made online or in person at The Stable at 259 North Maple Avenue or at the Community Center in Village Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. A $10 fee per person will be charged. Hockey registration, clinics planned Registration will be ongoing for the Village Youth Roller Hockey program. Clinics for all ages will be held Saturdays: Oct. 3, 10, 17, and 24. Programs offered include in-town Mite Division, grades kindergarten through three; Travel Midget Division, grades four through six; Travel Junior Division, grades seven through nine; and Travel Senior Division, grades 10 through 12. All age requirements are as of Sept. 1, 2009. Mandatory hockey equipment
will be listed on the registration form. Evaluations for all players will be on Saturday, Nov. 7, at 10 a.m. at the Graydon Pool Roller Hockey facility (rain date will be posted online at www.ridgewoodhockey.com). Those not registered may do so at the evaluations. Registration can be made in person or by mail to The Stable, 259 North Maple Avenue, Ridgewood. Call (201) 670-5560 for further information. Basketball program holds tryouts Wolverinez A.A.U. Basketball is holding tryouts for the fall/winter season. This is the third season for this competitive basketball program. Age groups for under nine through under 14 will take place Oct. 2 through 9. Wolverinze A.A.U. Condon to entertain College Club The College Club of Ridgewood will hold its first meeting of the 2009-10 year on Oct. 6 at noon at the Woman’s Club of Ridgewood. The session will include a catered lunch, meeting, and a program. Comedian Jane Condon will entertain with her repertoire that ranges from marriage and divorce to children and politics. Condon had been the featured performer on “The View” (ABC-TV), “Girls Night Out” (Lifetime TV), and has had numerous other TV and comedy club appearances, which include Gotham Comedy Club in New York City, Caroline’s on Broadway in San Francisco, Boston Comedy Club in Washington, DC and New York Comedy Club in Atlantic City.
