Fall Art and Craft Street Fair The annual Ridgewood Fall Art and Craft Street Fair will be held on Sunday, Sept. 13 from noon to 5 p.m. on East Ridgewood Avenue. Rain date will be on Sept. 20. Sponsored by the Ridgewood Parks and Recreation Department and promoted by P.J. Promotions, the show will include 140 crafters and artists. There will be pony rides and a petting zoo on Walnut Avenue, a children’s area in the park, music, and a food court. Vendors will have a large selection of items available including photography, apparel, fiber, garden and children’s items, framed sports items, hand crafted purses, turned and country wood, folk art, florals, stained and fused glass, ceramics, functional pottery, American Girl doll clothing and furniture, handcrafted jewelry, quilts, hand painted slates and mailboxes, candle, soaps, and more. Book discussion group forming at OPRC A book discussion group will meet at Ridgewood’s Old Paramus Reformed Church for six consecutive Tuesdays, beginning Sept. 15. The event is open to the public. A morning group will meet at 10:30 a.m. and an evening group at 7:30 p.m. The same material is covered at both meetings. The book selection is “Stone Crossings: Finding Grace in Hard and Hidden Places” by L .L. Barkat. This is the author’s story of her life journey and its impact on her spiritual growth. Each week, a section of the book is read to prepare for the meeting, and study questions are used to enable participants to share their insights. Children’s Gardening Club to meet Ridgewood Parks and Recreation, along with volunteers of the Women Gardeners of Ridgewood, will resume Green Kids, a nature and gardening club for village youth in grades two through five. The group will explore and discover nature, science, gardening, art, birding, weather, recycling, the environment, and their senses. Each month offers a new adventure, such as reptiles, botanical illustration, bee buzz, seedlings, Thanksgiving centerpieces for “Meals on Wheels,” holiday wreaths, and an outing to the McFaul Wildlife Center in Wyckoff. The club will meet the third Thursday of each month from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $50 for registration; all materials are provided. Babysitters’ class offered The Valley Hospital Center for Women, Children and Family Education is offering a babysitters’ preparation class on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. This class gives caregivers the necessary information they need to safely care for a child. Topics to be presented include feeding, holding, and changing a baby; infant safety concerns; and where and how to contact the police, parents, pediatrician, poison control centers, and other emergency personnel. The fee for this two-hour course is $35. Ridgewood Singers to hold auditions The Ridgewood Singers will host a Wine and Sing open rehearsal on Monday, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. This season kick-off is a great way to get acquainted with the chorus and begin rehearsals for the winter concert. Auditions will follow. There will also be an opportunity to audition at the open rehearsal on Sept. 21. All voice parts are encouraged to audition; however there is a great need for sopranos, both first and second, and male voices. Prepared music is unnecessary.
