Ridgewood
Senior bus service to begin
The Ridgewood Senior Bus will begin service this week with a bus loop plan on Tuesdays and rides by reservation on Thursday. The Tuesday bus loop plans will start from 9:30 a.m. and continue until 2:30 p.m. with loops of one hour each to pick up and drop off passengers around Ridgewood. Stops will include the post office, grocery store, the senior center at Village Hall, Valley Hospital, and Ridgewood Library. Courtesy stops will be made on Prospect Street, Dayton Street, Pleasant Avenue, Ellington Road, Dorchester Road, Berkshire Road, Arcadia Road, Grove Street, Van Dien Avenue, Glen Avenue, and Linwood Avenue. On these streets, seniors who wish to ride the bus may wait on the side of the road and wave their hands at the approaching bus. On Thursday, the bus will pick up seniors by reservation only from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Seniors may call (201) 6705500, extension 200 for a reservation. They will be picked up from their homes and dropped off at the desired location. The bus, however, may not be able to pick up passengers for the return trip. The village administration advices seniors who want to be assured of a ride home to take advantage of the discounted Senior Citizen Coupons offered by Ridgewood Taxi in cooperation with the village. Services are available only on days when Ridgewood Village Hall is open. Reservations and discount tickets may be obtained by calling (201) 670-5500 extension 200. A $1 donation per ride is suggested from seniors taking the bus on Tuesdays and on Thursdays. J. KOSTER

Vandalism cases under investigation
The Ridgewood Police Department is investigating a number of instances of vandalism against parked cars. On Aug. 20, a Downs Street resident reported that during the night an unknown person threw a bottle at his parked vehicle and broke the window on the driver’s side. Another bottle was thrown at the victim’s home, but caused no damage. The same night, a resident of Meadowbrook Avenue reported that an unknown person had thrown a jar at her parked vehicle. The jar broke the window on the driver’s side. On Aug. 24, a Ridgewood resident reported that she had parked her car on Meadowbrook Avenue and, when she returned, the driver’s side window had been broken with a rock. The same day, a Fairway Road resident reported that an unknown person had broken the rear window of her vehicle during the night. The Ridgewood Detective Bureau is investigating these incidents. The police are also investigating a report that three employees of Graydon Pool had their lockers opened and cash taken on different occasions over the previous week. The lockers and the locker room were not locked at the time of the theft. J. KOSTER
