The concert is open to the public, and the suggested donation is $3. Summers, who grew up in Glen Rock, has a background as a poet. Corcoran to address MOMs Dennis Corcoran will be the guest speaker at the Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Ministry of Motherhood (MOMs) meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 7. He will offer advice to mothers who are juggling the challenges of going to church as a family, and will address how families live their faith. OLMC MOM’s is a group of women of all ages and faiths who strive to make spirituality the center of their family life through supporting, ministering to, and learning from each other. The group offers a variety of adult and child-centered activities that offer mothers and families the opportunity for social interaction, emotional support, and spiritual growth. Castaldi to perform concert American soprano Cristina Castaldi will present a benefit recital for CantaLyrica at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Unitar- ian Society of Ridgewood, 113 Cottage Place, Ridgewood. Castaldi will perform a mixed program of arias and Broadway favorites. Most recently, Castaldi sang the role of Donna Elvira in Connecticut Grand Opera’s production of “Don Giovanni.” In addition, she regularly performs solo recitals throughout New York. A champagne “Meet the Artist” reception will follow the performance. CantaLyrica is a mixed chamber chorus based in the Ridgewood area. This season’s concerts will be held at the West Side Presbyterian Church in Ridgewood on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 at 4 p.m. and Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 8 p.m. Once again, the Adelphi Chamber Orchestra will join CantaLyrica for the concert in May. CantaLyrica Music Director Joshua Greene is an assistant conductor at the Metropolitan Opera and a private teacher of piano and conducting. Talmud class to begin Rabbi David J. Fine of Temple Israel and JCC of Ridgewood will present an ongoing course focused on the Talmud on Tuesdays, beginning on Oct. 13 at 8 p.m. All are welcome to this free series. Studying from the English version of the Steinzaltz edition, the class will begin with the seventh and eighth chapters of tractate Sanhedrin, studying aspects of the laws of jurisprudence. It is a window into classical Judaism and the workings of Jewish law in areas such as capital punishment, universal law, and the ability of the Rabbis to “correct” aspects of the Torah with which they disagree. As the class studies the text, Rabbi Fine will point out modern parallels. This course is part of an ongoing schedule of Temple Israel’s adult and family programming. Walsh Jr. of PSE&G will speak at the Ridgewood Village Hall Senior Lounge on Maple Avenue Oct. 8 at 10 a.m. Walsh will explain the New Jersey Energy Master Plan and efforts to help homeowners save money by reducing their energy costs. He will discuss home and office energy audits and rebates for the purchase of energy saving appliances. Walsh will also answer questions. The public is invited, and municipal officials and employees are encouraged to attend this free presentation. Refreshments will be served.
